Arlene Mendez

November 17, 1940 — July 1, 2018

On the morning of July 1, 2018 Arlene Mendez was taken to her eternal home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Arlene was born on November 17, 1940 in Milwaukee County and as a young child was placed at Central Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled. Arlene lived at Central Wisconsin Center for many years until June of 1995 when she was moved to Sheboygan County as the State of Wisconsin worked to relocated Individuals with Cognitive Impairments to smaller, more family like settings. Arlene was welcomed into the Hendrikse Adult Family Home where the Hendrikses and Adams and a host of dedicated care givers worked with Arlene and three other adults to begin their journey to a fuller life. Arlene attended RCS Empowers for many years and enjoyed the friends she made there. As Arlene aged she struggled with many medical concerns and the Sheboygan Medical Community provided excellent care and support to her. Arlene also lived at TLC Homes and most recently lived at Pine Haven Christian Communities. Both facilities provided Arlene excellent care and support. Due to Arlene's cognitive needs she was found to be in need of a legal guardian. Lynnette Johnson became her legal guardian but really acted as a guardian angel; advocating and caring for Arlene in a truly amazing fashion. Although Arlene couldn't speak we are quite certain she would be very happy to thank Lynnette for her wonderful care, support, and most importantly her unconditional love. Arlene enjoyed the wonderful life of community living; enjoying going out to eat, sitting in the sun, Cheese Puffs, a good can of Coke, and listening to music. Arlene will be missed by the many caregivers who were blessed to know her and care for her.My chains are gone, I've been set free, My God, my Savior has ransomed me, And like a flood His mercy reigns, Unending love, amazing grace.A celebration of Arlene's life will be held at 4:00 pm on Monday, July 9, 2018, at the Pine Haven Christian Community Haven Drive Campus in the Community Room.
