Carl G. Kumbalek, 94, of Sheboygan Falls, died on Saturday morning, July 20, 2019, at Terrace Place in Sheboygan where he had resided for the past several months.Carl was born on May 16, 1925, in Sheboygan, the son of Anthony and Nina (Birdsey) Kumbalek. He attended Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, Class of 1944, and was drafted into the military during his senior year. He entered the US Navy during World War II from 1943-46 serving on the USS Idaho in the South Pacific. On September 4, 1954, he married Bernice Huisenfeldt in DePere. Bernice preceded him in death on March 8, 1986. On October 21, 1988, he married Marlene (Gehrig) VanderJagt in Sheboygan. Carl was a cattle artificial inseminator for 21st Century Genetics for over 40 years before his retirement in 1990. Carl immensely enjoyed his work and made many friends with colleagues and the farmers that he served.Carl was a member of Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls and was a participant with Sheboygan County Rural Youth. He enjoyed square dancing, card playing, bus trips and bowling. Carl was a Green Bay Packer fan and was a proud shareholder. In his later years, he spent a lot of time in his four-seasons room, enjoying the view of his back yard and making sure the neighborhood birds were well fed. He really enjoyed any time he could spend with his many friends and large extended family, playing games and sharing in all the laughter and good times.Carl is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marlene; six daughters, Debbie (Toshi Mochizuki) Kumbalek of Houston, TX, Brenda (Scott) Rappeport of Sunapee, NH, Lisa Kumbalek of Houston, TX, Donna (William) MacNeil of Torrance, CA, Wanda (Jon) Cross of Lynn Center, IL and Carla Kumbalek of Sheboygan; one son, Scott (partner Judy Prosper) Kumbalek of Portland OR; three step daughters, Tracy (Kirk) Carrier of Chandler, AZ, Jennifer (Waylon) VanderJagt-Walton of Geneva, IL, Sara (Robert) Grover of Naperville, IL. Carl is also survived by ten grandchildren, David Rappeport, Eric Rappeport, Mileah Kumbalek, Kendal (fiancé Matt Kumzi) Cross, Janel (Jed) Metzger, Jonathan MacNeil, Jordan MacNeil, Brandon Khor, Nicholas Khor and Lucia Antonio; six step-grandchildren, Loren and Michael Carrier, Isabella and Nolan Walton, Jonah and Nate Grover; one great- grandson, Issac Metzger; seven sisters-in-law, Irene Kumbalek of Marysville WA , Mary Ellen Kubsch of Green Bay, Janice Rhodes of Salt Lake City, UT, Mary (Roger) Schleicher of Mukwonago, and Faye Gehrig, Gladys Sonnenburg and Patricia (James) Kuester, all of Sheboygan,; two brothers-in-law, William Gehrig of Sheboygan and Robert (Joyce) Huisenfeldt of Green Bay.Carl was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice; parents, Anthony and Nina Kumbalek, parents-in-law, Stephen and Alice Huisenfeldt, Herman and Clara Gehrig; a sister, Laura (George) Scherr; a brother Anthony Kumbalek; one sister-in-law, Jane Gehrig; and five brothers-in-law, Stephen Huisenfeldt, George Kubsch, Bill Sonnenburg, Herb Rhodes, and Bernie Gehrig.A funeral service to celebrate Carl's life will take place at Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls at 10 am on Saturday, August 3, 2019, with Fr. Bob Lotz officiating. Burial with military honors will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Sheboygan.Family and friends will gather at the Wenig Funeral Home on Friday, August 2, 2019, from 4-7 pm, and at church, on Saturday from 9 am until the time of the service at 10 am.
