Dale L. Wilterdink, 70, of Oostburg passed away on Thursday afternoon, December 17, 2020, surrounded by his loving family, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center following a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Dale was born on May 22, 1950 in Sheboygan, the son of Lloyd and Marie (Brasser) Wilterdink. On October 9, 1971 he married the love of his life, Zella VanEss, in Cedar Grove. Dale was a 1968 graduate of Oostburg High School where he was proud to have been a member of the mile relay team who took 1st place at the state meet his senior year. Following high school, Dale served in the US Army Reserves from 1968-75 and had a 45-year career at Tenpas Drywall Co. until his retirement in 2015.Dale was an active member of the Oostburg community throughout his life. He was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church in Oostburg where he served as an elder, a deacon, and as a Sunday School teacher for 25 years. In addition, he was a 23-gallon blood donor for the Red Cross, he volunteered his time and drywalling talents to help community members in need, and in recent years he volunteered with the Love Thy Neighbor ministry. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, following high school sports, attending state basketball tournaments, and sitting on his front porch reading the newspaper and visiting with friends.Dale is survived by his wife of 49 years, Zella; two daughters, Sara (Daniel) TenPas of Howards Grove and Rachel (Keven) Sprehe of Greenville; five grandchildren, John (TJ), Elizabeth and Anna TenPas, Megan and Abby Sprehe; two sisters, Bev (Mike) Foley and Doris (Tom) Dann, both of Sheboygan; one brother, Carl (Connie) Wilterdink of Oostburg; and a brother-in-law, Donald VanEss of Oostburg; nieces and nephews.Dale was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Ethan Thomas Sprehe; one brother, Robert Wilterdink; and his parents-in-law, Harvey and Gladys VanEss.A funeral to celebrate Dale's life will take place at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 1 pm with the Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. The service will be livestreamed and may be viewed by logging in to www.facebook.com/groups/dalewilterdink .  Burial will follow at Oostburg Cemetery in the Town of Holland.Family and friends will gather at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg on Wednesday from 11 am until the time of the service at 1 pm.  Face masks and social distancing are required to attend the visitation and service.The family would like to thank Alexis from Tender Hearts and the staff of the Sharon S.
