Obituary for Jane Doris VanHaveren

Jane Doris Van Haveren (nee’ TeStroete) of Sheboygan, passed away on February 27, 2018. She left behind her earthly pain and became whole again in the arms of Jesus who is her strength and Savior. Jane was born in Sheboygan on April 14, 1930 to Harvey and Adrianna TeStroete (nee’ Oostdyk).At the time of her passing Jane was a member of the First Oostburg Christian Reformed Church and the Marco Island Presbyterian Church. Previously she was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheboygan, where she served as a church organist for more than 60 years. Jane believed music was a wonderful tool in communicating with God and shared her gift during many church services, weddings and funerals. She also served as the accompanist for the Men of Harmony musical group for several years.Jane was a wonderful mother and piano teacher and enjoyed a 15 year career at Citizens Bank where she held several positions including a role with Trust Department where she hosted trips for senior citizen customers to destinations in many states.She is loved and will be dearly missed by her husband of 68 years, Raymond Van Haveren, her daughter Bonnie Rickerby and son-in-law Robert Rickerby of Duluth, Georgia; daughter Carol Van Haveren of Sheboygan; daughter Julie DeVos and Rodney Putt of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter Jacqueline Garbinsky and son-in-law Ronald Garbinsky of Columbia, South Carolina. She will also be missed by grandson Nicolas Gliszinski (friend Logan) of Chicago, Illinois; grandson Benjamin Gliszinski, wife Michelle, great granddaughter Abeline Ruth, and great grandson on the way, of Fort Collins, Colorado; grandson Jesse Collins of Epping, New Hampshire (friend Grace); grandson Christopher Rickerby and fiancé Ashley Stough of Jacksonville, Florida; grandson Matthew Rickerby of Boulder, Colorado.Favorite memories of her children and grandchildren include: camping trips to the Wisconsin Dells, homemade pizza after church on Sunday evenings, cheese frenchies at King’s restaurant with Jacki, making Dutch banket and pigs in the blanket (Worstebroodjes), turkey meatballs with Ben, cream cheese chocolate cupcakes with daughters and grandsons.Since childhood, Jane loved sewing and crafts and created beautiful dresses and quilts. She made handmade cards, floral arrangements and home décor, and donated handmade purses and stuffed animals to charitable causes. Ray was a companion during many years of thrift store treasure hunts and hobby store visits. (Thank you Dad for supporting mom’s beautiful creative studio and patiently completing your puzzles while Mom embarked on her newest ideas).Jane and Ray enjoyed 27 winters in Marco Island, Florida where they were a vibrant part of their church community, making new and longtime friendships with fellow “snowbirds” from across the country.Her love for her Lord will continue as a legacy for her family. Despite her health trials, God remained her steadfast Shepherd.From the family: “A heartfelt thank you to the compassionate nurses at Sharon Richardson Hospice; Dr. Brian DeMaster; Allison Soerens, APNP; and the caring staff at Memorial Hospital. Special thanks to neighbor VelRae Gartman for becoming like family and being a continual source of assurance for the well-being of our parents.”Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg will host a visitation at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018.
