Thomas Modjewski

Thomas David Modjewski, 83, of Cedar Grove, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.  Thomas was born on December 29, 1934, in Bessemer, MI to Stanley and Mary (Beissel) Modjewski. He attended Mosinee High School. Thomas served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1956. On May 11, 1957, he married the love of his life, Karen Andersen in Wausau; she preceded him in death on August 3, 2017. Thomas was employed at Pabst Brewery for 25 years. Thomas was the driving force behind the creation of Day or Nite Express Inc., the business owned by his wife and daughter. Thomas was a member of the St. John XXIII Catholic Parish in Port Washington.  Thomas loved driving, and enjoyed woodworking, hunting, gardening, watching boxing, learning about history and keeping up on current events.  Thomas is survived by his son, Thomas Richard (Pacita) Modjewski Jr. of Cedar Grove; three daughters, Kari (Raymond) Schicker of West Bend, Dawn (Steve) Wood of Belgium, and Debbi (John) Wishman of Oostburg; 14 grandchildren, Ryan (Jennifer) Schicker, Brent (Janel) Schicker, Tanya (special friend Joshua Johnson) Schicker, Timothy Modjewski, Erin (Jeff) Satterburg, Adam (special friend Jessica Montenero) Wood, Emili (Jonathan) Butrin, Ashley (Todd) Schwarten, Sara (Andrew) Bemman, Anna (Jeff) Schmit, Melissa (Carlos) Hernandez-Rewolinski, Brittney (special friend Danny Lueptow) Schnur, Brandon Wishman, and Briana Wishman; 26 great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward (Faye) Glatczak; and three sisters, Frances Lang, Patricia (Harland) Krueger, and Rose Groshek. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Karen; two great-grandchildren, Gemma Schwarten, and Todd Michael Schwarten; one brother, Michael (Maxine) Modjewski, two sisters, Estelle (Norman) Falkowski, and Theresa (Jerry) Topczewski; parents-in-law, Richard and Mary Andersen; three brothers-in-law, Reuben Lang, Ambrose Groshek, Robert Andersen; and one sister-in-law, Eleanore (Ervin) Walkowski. A funeral service to celebrate Thomas's life will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018, at 12:30pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 8846 County Rd C, Wittenberg with Rev. Augustine Bentil officiating. A burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Sunday, August 12, 2018, from 3-6pm and again on Monday, August 13, 2018 at the CHURCH from 11am until the time of service at 12:30pm. A memorial fund is being established in his name. For online condolences and additional information please visit www.wenigfh.com.  The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Sharon S.
