Joyce A. Nyenhuis, 91, of Oostburg, entered eternal life on April 29, 2022, at Pine Haven Christian Communities- Haven Drive Campus.
Joyce A. DeYoung was born on May 10, 1930 in Oostburg, the daughter of Harold and Cora (nee Roerdink) DeYoung . She attended school in Oostburg, graduating from Oostburg High School in 1948. On November 10, 1950, Joyce married her best friend, John W. Nyenhuis in Oostburg.
She worked as a telephone operator, and later worked at Oostburg State Bank for over 25 years.
Joyce was a member of Oostburg Christian Reformed Church where she was a member of the Martha Society. Over the years, she volunteered at the Pine Haven Gift Shop and the Good as New Store. She and John loved to travel with their friends, and Joyce enjoyed doing soduko puzzles, spending time with her women’s club groups, and above all, being with her family. She cared deeply, was dedicated, and enjoyed being in the moment.
Joyce is survived by two daughters, Mary Jo (Gary) Velier of Oostburg, and Cheri (Jeff) Gahagan of Sheboygan; two sons, Bruce "Ed" (Sue) Nyenhuis and Brian (Debbie) Nyenhuis, both of Oostburg; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Francisco) Verduzco, Kimberly (Forrest) Gibeault, Tracy (Randy) Johannsen, Jeremy Nyenhuis, Melissa Nyenhuis, Rebekah Nyenhuis, Peter (Tianna) Nyenhuis, and Tom (Jill) Nyenhuis; 17 great-grandchildren; sister Virginia VanStelle of CO; brother Jack (Shirley) DeYoung of Madison. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John and an infant grandson.
A funeral service to honor Joyce's life will take place at the Oostburg Christian Reformed Church on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022 at 11:00am with Rev. Drew Zylstra officiating. A livestream of the service can be found at wenig.live/JoyceNyenhuis . A visitation will take place at church on Tuesday from 9:00am until the time of service at 11:00am.
She will be laid to rest at Hartman Cemetery beside John.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name are suggested to Oostburg Christian School or Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
