Robert Born

Robert Edgar Born, 79, of Sheboygan Falls passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Golden Living in Sheboygan. Bob was born on March 6, 1937 in Sheboygan Falls to Edgar and Elva (Marx) Born. He was a 1955 graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School. On October 26, 1957 he married Nancy DePagter at Bethel OPC in Oostburg. After graduation he worked a couple of years at Bemis Mfg. Co. then joined the family business, Born Fuel and Marine. In 1965 he started Robert's Fashions on Broadway in Sheboygan Falls, and while running his clothing store he was a substitute mail carrier. In 1980 he became full time rural carrier on route #1 for the Sheboygan Falls Post Office. He retired after 23 years of service. A few years after retirement, he moved to Mt. Calvary and owned Sky Lanes and Down Under Supper Club. He and his wife Nancy enjoyed their business ventures and the great relationships they met along the way. Bob was a member of First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls, where he served as deacon and was instrumental in the building of the Family Life Center. Bob served as mayor for the city of Sheboygan Falls from 1980-1988 and in 1993 was appointed to the Sheboygan County Board and served 3 years. Bob was a 25 year member of the Sheboygan Falls Fire Department. In his free time he enjoyed all music. Over the years he put records onto tapes, then tapes onto discs and later enjoyed singing with his karaoke. He spent the best of times with his family and friends at the cottage at Wolf Lake. Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy; three sons, Ken (Sara) Born of Sheboygan, Jeff Born of Plymouth and Steve Born of Marietta, GA; eight grandchildren, Krystal (Jason) Wettengel, Travis, Tiffany, Nathan, Calla, Jordan, Savannah and Stephanie Born; one great grandchild, Beckett; one nephew, one niece and one cousin. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter-in-law, Karla Born; brother, Ronald (Mary Ellen) Born; uncles and aunts; and one cousin. A funeral service to celebrate Bob's life will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls at 2 pm with Rev. Brad Veenendaal officiating. Burial will be at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the church from 11am until the time of service at 2pm. A memorial fund is being established in Bob's name.
