Alan John Garside

Alan John Garside, age 97, passed away on September 19, 2026, at Pine Haven Christian Communities in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin.

He was born on August 3, 1929, in Cedar Grove, Wisconsin, to the late Ralph and Marjorie (Potts) Garside. He attended Random Lake High School, graduating in 1947, and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a Radarman Second Class, discharged in 1954. On February 19, 1966, Alan was united in marriage to Beverly (Steuerwald) Garside at Hingham Methodist Church in Wisconsin.

Alan worked as a lab technician at Adell Condensery from 1947 to 1949. In 1955, he joined the Kohler Company, where he worked in casting pottery before moving into product development. He retired from Kohler in 1992. Alan enjoyed playing cards, making maple syrup, planting trees, and tending his bees. Everyone who knew him enjoyed his sense of humor.

He was a longtime member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove, where he served as a church trustee. He was also a member of the Hingham American Legion Post 345.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Marjorie Garside; his sister, Marilyn (Fairman) Beardsley; and his brothers-in-law, Donald (Marlene) Steuerwald, Jerome Steuerwald, and Gerald Steuerwald.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Garside, of Cedar Grove; his sons, Timothy Garside (Dawn), of Cadott, Wisconsin, Daniel Garside (Desiree), of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Jeffrey Garside (Tanya), of Cedar Grove, Wisconsin, and David Garside (Vicki), of Cedar Grove, Wisconsin; his daughter, Linda Prom (Christopher), of Champaign, Illinois; his grandchildren, Travis Garside (Heather), Joshua Garside (Alyssa), Ashley Daiss (William), Jean-Luc Garside, Amanda Nelson (Mark), Kathryn Garside, Zachary Garside (Hannah), Tyler Garside (Kristina), Nicholas Garside, Jeremy Garside, Andrew Prom (Chloe), Grace Prom, and Margaret Prom; his great-grandchildren, Lydia, Xander, Jaxon, Leo, Ivy, Jameson, Reagan, Elijah, Rachel, and Viktor; and his sister-in-law, Louise Steuerwald.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Moments Hospice and Pine Haven Christian Communities for their compassionate care.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 26, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove, Wisconsin, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor David Cornette. Burial will follow at Hingham Cemetery.
