Anita Jean Daane

Anita J. Daane, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, age 104 of Oostburg, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026, at Pine Haven Christian Community, where she was a resident for many years.

Anita was born on November 30, 1921, to Lila (Beernink) and Peter Oostdyk. Anita attended Beaver Creek grade school. She graduated from Oostburg High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Oshkosh State University and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin. She married Edward Daane on July 23rd, 1947. Edward preceded her in death on June 11, 2000.

In addition to raising four children, Anita taught elementary school for 34 years, many of those as a third-grade teacher at Cedar Grove Elementary School. She loved playing cards and scrabble with family and friends.

Anita is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Michael) Rawling of Wauwatosa, WI and their children Erin (Frank) Cornell and Kyle Rawling; son, Bob (former wife Diane) Daane of Cedar Grove, and their children Tim (Alisha) Daane, and Kim (Kurt) Sustachek; son, Glenn (Lois) Daane of Oostburg and their children Brett (Grace) Daane and Nicole (Matthew) Batzel. She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Lois (Peter) Oostdyk, 12 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Daane; her son Thomas Daane; grandchildren: Brittany and Christopher Daane; twin sister, Sylvia Oostdyk McDaniel; brothers, Dale (Patsy) Oostdyk, Philip (Shirley) Oostdyk and Peter (Lois) Oostdyk; as well as her brother-in-law John (Wilma) Daane; and sisters-in-law Laura (Casey) Wondergem and Jeanette (Gerard) Schapp.

A memorial service to celebrate Anita’s life will be held at First Reformed Church in Oostburg on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 12:00pm. Visitation will be held at church from 10:00am until the time of service. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Edward, at Oostburg Cemetery.

Memorials are appreciated in Anita’s name to Pine Haven Christian Communities or Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.

Anita’s family wishes to thank the staff at Pine Haven Covenant House for their constant loving care as well as the staff of Sharon Richardson Hospice for their compassionate care during the last months of her life.
