Audrey Lenore Dolfin, 98, of Hingham, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Pine Haven Christian Communities - Oostburg.
Audrey was born on May 16, 1926, in the Town of Lima to Ben and Florence (Bloemers) Kappers. She was a 1943 graduate of Oostburg High School and went on to teachers training in Sheboygan Falls. She taught at Banner School.
When Audrey was five years old, she was kissed by a handsome young boy under his kitchen table. On February 28, 1946, Audrey was united in marriage to that boy, David Dolfin in Hingham. From 1946 to 1960, together they managed and owned the Hingham Grocery Store. David then started Whitewater Outdoors, which he owned and operated with the support of Audrey and his family for over 28 years. They enjoyed 72 years of marriage before David’s passing on February 25, 2018.
Audrey’s love of the Lord was reflected to all who knew her by the positive, encouraging, and joyful way she lived her life. She was a dedicated and loving wife and mother.
Audrey was a lifelong faithful member of Hingham Reformed Church, where she served in Women’s Group, as a Sunday School and VBS teacher, and Bible study leader. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed her winters in Florida and summers at their cottage in Northern Wisconsin for over twenty years.
Audrey is survived by her two daughters, Ruth (Kenneth) Kanz of Hingham, Margery (Ralph) Warkentin of Linn Grove, IA; three sons, James (Ann) Dolfin of Oostburg, Joel (Emily) Dolfin of Hingham, Todd (Laura) Dolfin of Hingham; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Kathryn Rauwerdink; and sister-in-law, Jean Kappers. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, David; parents, Ben and Florence Kappers; parents-in-law, Rev. Cornelius and Rena Dolfin; sister, Mary (Lauren) DeTroye; brothers, Harold (Miriam) Kappers, Larry Kappers; and brothers-in-law, Warren Rauwerdink, Rev. Fred (Viola) Dolfin, Paul (Joyce) Dolfin.
A funeral service to celebrate Audrey's life will be held at the Hingham Church on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 5:00pm. A private family burial will take place at Hingham Cemetery. A livestream of the service can be viewed on Audrey's obituary page on wenigfh.com.
Relatives and friends may greet the family for a time of visitation at Hingham Church on Tuesday from 3:00pm until the time of service.
A memorial fund is being established in her name for Pine Haven Christian Communities – Oostburg or Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Pine Haven Christian Communities – Oostburg for their compassionate and loving care of Audrey over the years. She truly loved all the staff and felt loved in return.
