Audrey Ann Oppeneer

Audrey Ann Oppeneer of Oostburg, 97, passed away on June 27, 2026 at Pine Haven Christian Communities—Haven Drive. Audrey was born September 23, 1928, the daughter of Clarence and Jennie (Gabrielse) Brusse.

She was a 1946 graduate of Oostburg High School. On October 22, 1948, she married Frederick Oppeneer in Oostburg. Together they had three children, Tom, Steve, and Susan and enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Fred preceded her in death on July 23, 2011. Her son, Tom Oppeneer, also preceded her in death on March 8, 2022.

Audrey was a devoted homemaker. She was briefly employed at the Sheboygan Telephone Company early in her marriage.

Audrey was a lifelong member of First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg where she was a member of the Martha Society and Eunice Society. She also volunteered for the Oostburg Christian School Circle and Good as New shop. She enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren, when they were young, and as they grew up she enjoyed watching them participate in various school activities. She also loved watching her grandchildren and friends through her living room window playing at recess on the OCS school grounds. Audrey took great satisfaction in being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother.

Audrey is survived by her daughter, Susan (Rick) Walber of Troy, Illinois; son, Steve (Kathy) Oppeneer of Hingham; eleven grandchildren, Eric (Maegan) Walber, Kathryn (BJ) Parker, Sarah (Steve) Mueller, John (Tonia) Oppeneer, Elizabeth (Mark) Huerta, Martha (Erik Thiel) De La Cruz, Anne (Aaron) Bassindale, Dan (Lisa) Oppeneer, Michelle (Damon) Huibregtse, Joel (Sheila) Oppeneer and Mike (Michelle) Oppeneer; 28 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.

Memorial services to celebrate Audrey’s life will be held at Oostburg CRC on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 11:00am with the Rev. Drew Zylstra officiating. She will be laid to rest next to Fred at Union Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Tuesday at church from 9:00am until the time of the service at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Audrey’s memory for Oostburg Christian School, Sheboygan Christian School, or Pine Haven Christian Communities.
