Bruce Allan Mentink

Bruce Allan Mentink, 72, of Oostburg, went Home to his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at UW Health University Hospital. He is now reunited with his son, Jason.

Bruce was born to Arvin “Ike” and Helen (Soerens) Mentink on May 7, 1954, in Sheboygan. He graduated from Oostburg High School in 1972.

On June 7, 1975, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Judy Wisse at Faith Reformed Church in Cedar Grove. Together they shared 51 years and raised three sons.

His food service career began at Piggly Wiggly and continued at Watson’s Vending. Bruce was a lifelong member of Oostburg CRC.

Bruce’s love of sports started at a young age, playing baseball in First Reformed Church across from their house and basketball in the alley until dark many nights. Bruce played baseball, basketball, and track in high school. Baseball was always his favorite, playing many years of fast pitch in Hingham and in slow pitch. He was an extreme Brewers fan, rarely missing a televised game. Bruce enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s activities, as well as the Badgers, Bucks and Packers. He thoroughly enjoyed coaching, especially his years coaching his children and Oostburg JV girls’ basketball. Bruce enjoyed golfing and being a part of the Gibbsville Men’s Golf League at Evergreen.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Judy Mentink; sons, Brian (Mary) Mentink of Oostburg and Jeff (Jessie) Mentink of Sheboygan; daughter-in-law, Danielle (George) Mladenov of Mequon; grandchildren: Isaiah, Elijiah, Malachi, and Malchizedek Mentink, Devyn, Gavyn, Bradyn, and Jordyn Mentink, Niya and Asia Mentink, Jude, Cecelia, Angelina, Vera and Franklin Mladenov; brothers: Dean (Sally), Gary (Sherrie), and Craig (LuAnn) Mentink; mother-in-law, Betty DeRuyter; siblings-in-law, Joanne (Norman) DeRuyter, Joy (Dick Moths) Dempsey, and Anna Wisse. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jason Mentink; parents, Arvin “Ike” and Helen Mentink; father-in-law, Joseph (Gladys) Wisse; step father-in-law, Jerry DeRuyter; and brother-in-law, Jerry Wisse.

Funeral services to celebrate Bruce’s life will be held at Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00am. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and again on Saturday from 9:00am until the time of service. He will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery.
