Born on January 11, 1940 he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Hocevar. Carl grew up in Kohler, WI, and was the oldest of four brothers.
He excelled in academics in high school, competed in pole-vaulting and played on the football team. It was in Seattle that he met and married Barbara Donati of Buckley, WA.
Carl’s career began in the aerospace field working for Boeing. Then he worked in the nuclear power industry where he was so alarmed by safety lapses in nuclear power plants that he was compelled to bring public attention to the risks. Carl dedicated himself to safeguarding the environment, and as a member of the Union of Concerned Scientists he contributed to an early book detailing advantages of solar power. He worked in several fields including solar energy and IT, and his final job was as a consultant for international energy development, which sent him around the world, spending time in numerous countries.
He was an avid runner and enjoyed taking his family hiking, camping and cross-country skiing. Carl and his family moved around, living in Washington, Idaho, Massachusetts, Colorado and Washington D.C. When Carl and Barbara retired they moved to Oregon where they lived out their final years.
Preceded in death by wife Barbara and parents Joseph and Margaret Hocevar. Survived by sons Michael Hocevar and Peter Hocevar, brothers Joseph (Nancy) Hocevar, Raymond Hocevar and Richard Hocevar, and four nephews.
