Charleen Marie (McCabe) Deckert-Johnson, 69, of Sheboygan, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
Char was born on December 23, 1956, to Bernard and Marian (Guth) McCabe in Sheboygan. Char graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1975 and went to school at Lakeshore Technical College and Marian College in Fond du Lac to get her LPN. She worked at the Sheboygan Aurora Clinic in family practice and later went to work at St. Nicholas Hospital. Char worked for years as a nurse at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center. She enjoyed living on Crystal Lake for many years. Char worked at several group homes before retiring in 2006.
She loved nature, outdoors, and was a lifetime Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader. She worked at Camp Evelyn as nurse. Char enjoyed connecting with others and excelled in direct sales with multiple different independent businesses. Her hobbies included traveling out west, scrapbooking, waterskiing, swimming, and crocheting.
Char is survived by her 2 daughters: Jennifer (Matt) McClure of Union, Kentucky, and Mary (Jeff) McCall of Elkhart Lake; son, Jeremy Deckert of Oostburg; grandchildren: Alex and Jackson McClure, Hunter (fiancé Jordyn), Carter, and Scarlett McCall. She is further survived by her twin sister, Kathleen (McCabe) Fields of Durand, WI; brother, Thomas McCabe of Durand, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; brothers: James E. McCabe, Howard McCabe, Bernard McCabe, and Jeffrey McCabe; and nephew, Matthew Fields.
A celebration of life will be held at Emil Mazey Hall on Sunday, June 21, 2026 from 2:00-6:00pm.
