Charlotte Lou Baumann

Charlotte Baumann died peacefully at Cedar Grove Gardens on December 10th after a long and difficult battle with dementia.

Charlotte Lou Tenpas Baumann was born in Sheboygan, WI on November 8th, 1940 to Gordon and Marjorie (LeMahieu) Tenpas. Her family moved to a farm outside of Hingham and she graduated from Oostburg High School in 1958. She furthered her education at Sheboygan County Teacher’s College, and later earned a nursing degree from Lakeshore College.

On June 23, 1960 she married Phillip Baumann. They were married 52 years until his death in 2013.

Charlotte was valedictorian of her high school class, and won many 4-H awards at the local and state level. She was an accomplished pianist, organist and vocalist, using her talents at Hingham church, and at many weddings and funerals. She was a gifted seamstress and quilter, and enjoyed quilting with Patchwork & Prayers at church. She was a voracious reader and could often be heard humming throughout the racks at the Oostburg Library.

Nursing was the profession she was called to, and it was one of the most important things in her life. She worked at St. Nicholas Hospital for over 30 years, and was recognized by The American Heart Association for her work with The Stroke Support Group. She also cared for her husband tirelessly after an accident, and during his many hospitalizations and surgeries.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her parents-in-law. She is survived by her daughters, Ann (Brian) Daane and Dawn (Rob) Blok, both of Oostburg, her sister LuAnn(Corey) Lee, and her brothers Neil (Susan), Gary (Mary), and Lowell (Leny). She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
