Curtis Torry

Curtis Torry, 77, of Oostburg, passed away at home on Monday, June 15, 2020.Curtis was born on February 2, 1943, in Lumberton, NC to James Torry and Martha Brown. He was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School. On July 20, 1978, Curtis married Cynthia Abate in Columbia, SC. Curtis enlisted in the US Army and served his country honorably for 23 years. He retired as a Master Sgt. in 1983.He was a Life Member of VFW Post 9156. He enjoyed flower gardening, war movies, caring for his dog, Cherry, and spending time with his family. Curtis is survived by his wife, Cynthia Torry; daughter, Natasha (Jeff) Torry; son, Curtis (Debbie) Torry Jr.; five grandchildren, Mai-linh, Aidan, Nadia, Jake and Finn; two sisters, Gladys and Clarice; two sons-in-law, Andrew Morgan and Christopher Congelton; dear friends, Dan & Katie and their daughter, little Gracie; dear friend, Melissa; and many cousins. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, James and Martha; three sisters, Mary, Dora and Dorothy; and brother, JD. A memorial service to celebrate Curtis' life will be held on Monday, July 20, 2020, at 11:00 am at Wenig Funeral Homes - Oostburg with Pastor Jim Hollister officiating. An inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery.Relatives and friends may greet the family at Wenig Funeral Homes - Oostburg on Monday, July 20, 2020 from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. A memorial fund is being established in his name.
