Denis Owen Schmideler, 80, of Sheboygan, met His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 18, 2021, at Advocate Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center with his family by his side.Denis Schmideler was born on November 20, 1940, in Sheboygan, to Hilbert Schmideler and Lilly Schmideler and attended St. Paul Lutheran grade school. He later graduated from Sheboygan North High School and continued his education at University of Wisconsin Madison. On September 25, 1965, he married his best friend, Lois Opgenorth, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan.Never fully retiring, he earned great professional respect and numerous accolades throughout his successful career as a chemical sales representative with Diversey/Lever for over 41 years. He often referred to himself as a "sanitation expert" with "talent on loan from God!"Denis was a lover of music (especially hymnody and choral), high school sporting events like Lutheran High basketball, golfing, spending time with his Bible Study Buddies, raising money for charities, Party for Marty, Bible Trivia, King James Version, marching for Life, traveling to see grandchildren & great-grandchildren with Grandmother the Great. Above all, Denis had a genuine love for people and for his family. He truly was a Great American. This love for others was a true extension of his greatest love - Thee Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.Denis is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Lois Schmideler of Sheboygan; 5 children, Dr. DeeAnn    (J. R.) Ragaisis of Pearland, TX, Jay (Karla) Schmideler of Sheboygan, Owen (Kristen) Schmideler of St. James, NY, BethAnn (Bill) Thomas of O'Fallon, MO, and JoyAnn (Joe) Brezovar of Grafton. 15 grandchildren; #1 Reid (Mariel) Schmideler, #2 Nate (Sarah) Ragaisis, #3 Max Schmideler, #4 Melanie (Nick) Forcier, #5 Emma Schmideler, #6 Madelyn Thomas, #7 Jason Schmideler, #8 Audrey Schmideler, #9 Brooke Brezovar, #10 Elizabeth Thomas, #11 Danielle Brezovar, #12 Cole Schmideler, #13 Will Thomas, #14 Erin Brezovar, #15 Sam Thomas; one beloved great-granddaughter, RuthAnn, which elevated his status to "Grandfather the Great"; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Schmideler, Geraldine (George) Anderson, Ginny Schreiber, Joyce Opgenorth, and Sandy Schmideler; brothers-in-law, Larry (Gloria) Opgenorth, Wayne (Laverne) Opgenorth, and Roger Jensema; nieces and nephews of his brother, Glen (Katherine) Schmideler, Dale (Shelley) Schmideler, and Gaylynn Schmideler.He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilbert & Lilly Schmideler, and brother, Gary Schmideler.A funeral service will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church of Sheboygan on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Robert Steele and Rev. John Berg co-officiating.Visitation will take place at church on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and again on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Denis will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Sheboygan. A livestream of the service will be streamed on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. by visiting www.wenig.live/denisschmideler .Memorial donations can be made in his name to Anchor of Hope Health Center, Good News Jail Ministry, or Sheboygan Lutheran High School.  The Wenig Funeral Home of Oostburg (920-564-2771) is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
