Donald (Don) Henry Sonnentag passed away suddenly at his home in Sheboygan Falls on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the age of 86.
Don was born on June 17, 1939, in Janesville, Wisconsin, to Henry and Alma (Stubbendick) Sonnentag. On July 16, 1960, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Wecker, beginning a beautiful marriage that would span nearly 66 years. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.
A defining moment in Don and Marilyn’s lives came on May 3, 1975, when they both surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ and accepted Him as their Lord and Savior. From that day forward, Don lived with an unwavering passion for the Gospel and a deep love for the Lord. His faith was not simply something he believed—it shaped the way he lived, served, loved, and cared for others. He never missed an opportunity to share the hope of salvation found through Jesus Christ and faithfully pointed others toward the grace and mercy of God.
Don worked for General Motors in Janesville for ten years before relocating to Sheboygan, where he served as plant manager at AMETEK Plymouth Products/Pentair for 35 years. Beyond his professional life, he was deeply committed to serving both his church and community. He was actively involved in Rotary Club and served on numerous boards, including the Salvation Army and the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce. He was a huge Green Bay Packer, Wisconsin Badger, and Brewer fan. He faithfully served as a church deacon for 35 years and ministered as a church administrator. Don’s life was marked by humility, generosity, integrity, and a servant’s heart.
Above all else, Don was a devoted follower of Christ, a loving husband, a supportive father, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a faithful friend. His greatest joy was knowing Jesus personally and helping others come to know Him as well. While his family grieves deeply, they rejoice in the assurance that Don is now in the presence of his Savior, fully restored and at peace. As Scripture declares in John 11:25, Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.”
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn; his children, Vickie (Brian) Van de Water of Luxemburg, WI, and David (Sarah Sachse) Sonnentag of Sheboygan; and his son-in-law, Mark (Patricia) Vincent. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Erica (Paul) Annear, Hunter (Mikayla) Van de Water, Brandon (Kendra) Van de Water, Dr. Katie Sonnentag, Dr. Davey Sonnentag, Jonah (Suzanne) Sonnentag, Jacob (Elena) Sonnentag, Jordan Sonnentag, Justin Sonnentag, Zach (Addie) Vincent, and Autumn (Alex) Heling; along with twelve great-grandchildren, other relatives, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his children, Daniel Sonnentag and Lorie Vincent; his siblings, James (Wanda) Sonnentag, Al (Rena) Busch, Janet Sonnentag, Darlene Sasso, Sharon Sonnentag; and his brother-in-law, Everett (Norma) Wecker.
