Doris De Smidt

Doris Mae De Smidt, 79, went to her eternal home on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton.Doris was born to Willard and Eunice (Harmelink) Veldhorst on June 19, 1941 in Cedar Grove. She graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1959. Doris was united in marriage to Robert De Smidt on February 17, 1962 at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove. She was lifelong member of First Reformed Church. Doris was employed part-time as a pharmacy technician for 15 years at Aurora Pharmacy - Cedar Grove.Doris enjoyed gardening, traveling, especially trips to Door County, and volunteering at Cedar Grove-Belgium School District and Pine Haven. She was passionate about helping with Holland Festival every year and each spring, planted flowers at the Windmill in Cedar Grove. Doris enjoyed cooking for family and baking always to share with others. She always put others before herself and enjoyed sending cards on special occasions. Doris loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.Doris is survived by her husband, Robert De Smidt; children: Jeffrey (Deanne) De Smidt, Anne Ten Pas, Jennifer De Smidt; grandchildren: Justin and Kelsi De Smidt, Jerod Ten Pas, Ashley De Smidt; sister: Dorothy (Glenn) Jensema; sisters-in-law, Helen Veldhorst, Alyce Veldhorst, and Shirl De Smidt; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.Doris is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Wesley Veldhorst, Howard Veldhorst, and brother-in-law, Ralph De Smidt.The private service to celebrate Doris's life will be held. Family and friends are welcome to join in by watching a livestream of the service on Tuesday, December 29th at 1:30 pm at www.wenig.live/dorisdesmidt .
