Doris C. Heinen, 95, of Oostburg, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Pine Haven Christian Communities, Oostburg Campus.
Doris was born on August 10, 1926, to John & Annie (Smies) Leys in the Town of Lima. She was a 1944 graduate of Sheboygan North High School.
On September 24, 1948, Doris married Alfred John Heinen. Alfred preceded Doris in death on November 29, 1997.
In her youth, Doris was a proud member of the Radio Choir, formerly known as The Old Time Religion Broadcast, at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheboygan. As an adult, she was a faithful member of Oostburg Christian Reformed Church and an active participant in both the Oostburg Christian School Circle and various Bible Study groups. She also loved volunteering every Tuesday morning for Coffee Break. When she wasn’t serving others, she enjoyed baking, cooking, playing Rummikub, and spending time with those she loved.
Doris had a quick wit, a compassionate heart, and always a steadfast faith. She will be dearly missed.
Doris is survived by her two sons, David (Kathy) Heinen of Pella, IA, and Jack (Mary Ann) Heinen of Black Mountain, NC; four grandchildren, Jodi (Jeremy) Vande Noord, Jon (Tricia) Heinen, Beth (Christian) Bell, and Rebecca Heinen; and six great-grandchildren, Jaydon (Megan) Vande Noord, Janae Vande Noord, Maclane Heinen, Morgan Heinen, Maggie Heinen, and Maddux Heinen. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alfred Heinen; brothers and sisters, Dena DenBoer, John Leys Jr., Anetta Gabrielse, Kathryn Ver Velde, Marvin Leys, Peter Leys, Agnes Gabrielse, Janet Buteyn, Daniel Leys, Clarence Leys, Wilbert Leys, and Calvin Leys; and a dear daughter-in-law, Sandi Heinen.
A funeral service to celebrate Doris’ life will take place at the Oostburg Christian Reformed Church on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Friends and relatives may greet the family for a time of visitation at the church Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m until the service at 11:00 a.m. Doris will be laid to rest next to her husband in a private family service at the Gibbsville Cemetery.
