Ellsworth “Sam” John Brill, 94, of Oostburg, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Aurora Medical Center – Sheboygan.
Sam was born to John and Evelyn (Mentink) Brill on December 18, 1931, in Oostburg. He attended Oostburg School. Sam served his country in the US Army from 1952-1954. He farmed for many years and worked at Bolens in Port Washington for 21 years until retirement.
On June 4, 1955, he was united in marriage to Lois (Weavers) Soerens in Oostburg.
Sam was a member of Bethel OPC, where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Oostburg American Legion. Sam enjoyed bowling in a league and farming, even helping other farmers for years. He was one of the founders of Plow Days. Sam lived a very simple life and enjoyed having two Haflinger ponies, Tommy and Champ. Sam loved going to Judi’s for breakfast every morning.
Sam is survived by his children, Shirley (Jim) Hartman and Dan (Ione) Brill; grandchildren: Tina Kaat, Rick Hartman, and Joel (Kelle) Hartman; great grandchildren: Jamie (fiancé Zac) and Michael Kaat, Braxton, Jerica, and Riley Hartman; sister, Mary Ann Verlare; sister-in-law, Elaine Brill; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; parents; brother, Jack Brill; sister, Carol Brill; brother-in-law, Richard Verlare.
A funeral service will be held for Sam at Bethel OPC on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 12:00pm. Visitation will be held at church from 10:00am until the time of service. He will be laid to rest next to Lois at Oostburg Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in Sam’s name.
