Ethel Sherwan

Ethel Helen Sherwan, 89, of Oostburg, passed peacefully at Pine Haven Christian Home on the evening of October 22nd from complications of multiple myeloma. She had lived at Pine Haven since January 30, 2017.     Ethel was born in Milwaukee, WI on May 2, 1928, to Anton and Helen (Wiencek) Swosinski. She attended St. Adalbert Catholic School and graduated from South Division High School, Milwaukee. On February 28, 1947, she married Robert Sherwan at North Shore Presbyterian Church, Milwaukee. They were married for 45 romantic and fun-filled years before his passing in 1992. In addition to raising two children, Ethel worked as a private secretary and in restaurant management.     After Bob's death Ethel created a new life for herself and traveled the world. She met Doug Page in 1997 and joined him in competing at cribbage tournaments across the country. A member of the American Cribbage Congress, Ethel competed nationally and attained the ranking of "Master." She was also an avid Mahjong player, regularly playing with Ed and Cheryl Ferber of Adell.     Ethel was much loved and will be dearly missed by her family. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Terri and William Yoho of Adell; granddaughter Alexis and her husband Brian Boyd of Mequon, and great-grandson Elliott William Boyd who was the light of her life until the last hug. She is further survived by special friend Doug Page, five additional grandchildren in Oklahoma, nieces and nephews and many friends.     Besides her parents and husband, Ethel was preceded in death by son, Robert Bruce Sherwan (2009) and two brothers, Gerald Swosinski and Daniel Swosinski.     According to Ethel's wishes, there will be no visitation. A private family committal service will be led by Pastor Gail Mitchell, retired pastor at Zion United Methodist Church, Batavia.
