Florence Adela Popp

It is with deep love, gratitude, and sadness that we share the passing of our cherished mother, Florence Adela Popp, 91, on August 5, 2026 at Pine Haven in Sheboygan Falls, with her family by her side.

Florence was born on August 11, 1934, to Adolph and Adeline (Schlichting) Fenner in the Town of Sheboygan Falls. She lost her mother at a young age in 1946. She graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School. On October 11, 1952, Florence was united in marriage to the love of her life, James Popp, at St. Luke Lutheran Church. They shared 73 wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with three children, whom they raised on their beloved family homestead along North Highway 32. Later, they traveled the world in retirement.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Marlene (Harold) Meinnert; her brother and sister-in-law, Norman (Geraldine) Fenner; her infant sisters, Arnita and Carol; and her father's housekeeper, Hattie Severin, who helped raise Florence and her siblings.

She is survived by her husband, James; her brother, David Fenner; her sons, Michael (Darlene) Popp of New Berlin, WI, and Randy (Jennifer) Popp, of Sun Prairie, WI; and her daughter, Julann (Jose) Sanchez, of Tamarac, FL. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nathanael (Elise) Popp, Carmen Bartholomew-Popp, Megan (Ryan) Kussmaul, Alex Popp, Mallory (Eric) Zoglman, Julian Sanchez, and Nicole Sanchez; and by her three great-grandchildren, Zander and Paxton Zoglman, and Kooper Kussmaul.

Florence was the consummate wife, mother, homemaker, and parish member. She was deeply devoted to her faith and made sure us kids did not embarrass the family in front of Pastor Diemer. While her primary focus was always her family, she also worked at Leverenz Shoe Company, Rick’s House of Flowers in Sheboygan Falls, and later delivered mail in her little red Subaru. Her love for church was evident in her work as a Sunday School teacher, librarian, and member of Sarah Circle and Ladies of St. Luke. She enjoyed working on Easter flower displays, banners, communion setups, and greetings.

She embodied the classic skills of a German homemaker—sewing, cooking, gardening, canning, and baking, especially her famous blueberry cheesecake. Cleanliness was next to godliness in her home. She was also a voracious reader and had a remarkable talent for refinishing furniture, a skill born from her passion for preserving and honoring the past.

Florence never met a photo she didn't like. She was a deeply passionate family historian who spent decades creating books documenting the Popp, Fenner, Schmitz, and Schlichting families, each exceeding 400 pages. More than simply recording history, she treasured meeting and photographing living relatives from every corner of Wisconsin.

Florence spent her final year at Pine Haven, just a mile from the family home. We were blessed to celebrate many family gatherings there, the last being Father's Day, when she was able to hold her newest great-grandchild.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00PM on Friday, August 21, 2026 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, N6193 State Rd 32 in Sheboygan Falls. All are welcome to view a livestream of the service on Florence's obituary page at wenigfh.com .  Burial will take place at St. Lucas Cemetery in the town of Sheboygan Falls. Relatives and friends may greet the family at church on Friday from 10:00AM -12:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Luke Lutheran Church.
