Gary Lee Peters, 74, of Sheboygan Falls, died July 14, 2023, at his home.

He was born Nov. 8, 1948, in Menominee, MI, son of Gervais and Lucille Peters.

He attended Marinette Catholic Central High School, Lakeland College, and the University of Wisconsin.

 

The recipient of numerous state, national, and international writing awards, Peters was employed as a reporter and editor for several Wisconsin newspapers, including the former Marinette Eagle-Star and The Sheboygan Press. He also served as director of communications for Marinette General Hospital.

 

More recently, Peters taught college students the art of fine writing. Essays submitted by his students, competing against 350,000 other entries annually, won Gold Medals as “the most outstanding work(s) in the nation” six times. In addition, his company, Final Draft, mentored business executives, screenwriters, and professional speakers around the world. 

 

Survivors include two sons, Robert (Jennifer Clark), Bartlett, Ill., and William, Manitowoc; two daughters, Kathleen (Raymond) Beseler, Oshkosh, and Jennifer (Steven) Raden, Kohler; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick and Michael, and a sister, Patricia Hanson. 

 

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public visitation. Private burial will be in Sheboygan Falls Cemetery.

 

Memorial contributions can be made in his name for the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund or the Sheboygan County Humane Society.
