Helen Mentink

Helen G. Mentink, 83, of Oostburg, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday afternoon, March 19, 2007 at Pine Haven Christian Home where she had resided for the past six weeks. She was born January 10, 1924 in the Town of Holland, a daughter of the late Henry and Gertrude (Ruesink) Soerens. Helen was a 1941 graduate of Oostburg High School. She married Arvin Mentink in Oostburg on September 11, 1946. Helen was a loving wife and devoted mother. She cherished the time she could spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Helen was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg where she was a past member of the Ladies Societies. She enjoyed golf, bowling, travel, flowers and baking. Survivors include her husband, Arvin; four sons, Dean (Sally), Gary (Sherrie), Bruce (Judy), and Craig (LuAnn) Mentink, all of Oostburg; ten grandchildren, Michael (Patty), Joel (Erin) Mentink, Paul (Nicole) Mentink, Michelle (Bart) Epping, Brian (Mary), Jeff (Jessie), Jason (Danielle) Mentink, Tracy (Shawn) Richards, Karri (Joel) Krier, Kevin (Katie) Mentink; 13 great grandchildren, Daniel, Nicholas, Mary, Brett, Billy Mentink, Sawyer and Macey Mentink, Ellianna and Mackenna Epping, Devyn Mentink, Connor Mentink, Kylee Richards and Ava Krier; two sisters-in-law, LaVerne (Rich) Nyenhuis of Oostburg, Grace Arnoldi of Sheboygan Falls; two brothers-in-law, Meryl (Lorraine) Mentink and Norman (Faye) Mentink, both of Oostburg. She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg, with the Rev. Dr. Leslie Kuiper, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 from 4-8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
