Herbert J. Droppers, formerly of Cedar Grove died Monday morning, January 23, 2006 at Pine Haven Christian Home where he had resided since November. Herb was born on November 5, 1916 in the Town of Holland, the son of the late Anthony and Jennie (Hyink) Droppers. He attended Maple Grove School and graduated from the Wisconsin Memorial Academy in Cedar Grove in 1934. On January 9, 1935 he married the late Loretta LeMahieu in Sheboygan Falls. She preceded him in death on April 19, 1982. On June 18, 1983, Herb married the former Avis (Phaneuf) Daane in Sheboygan Falls. Herb was a lifelong farmer in the Town of Holland and was well known in the community for many years as an auctioneer and real estate agent. Herb was a charter member of Faith Reformed Church in Cedar Grove where he served elder and chairman of the building committee of the original church. He was also a 25 year member of the Board of Directors and past president of the Cedar Grove Co-op; and served on the Cedar Grove First Interstate and Norwest Bank Boards. Herb also served as Chairman for the Town of Holland Board and the Sheboygan County Board of Supervisors. He enjoyed farming, raising Shetland ponies for many years, and was an avid reader. Herb is survived by his wife, Avis, of Cedar Grove; two daughters, Donna (Mark) Oudersluys of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Diane (Charlie) Browne of Atlanta, Georgia; one son, Dale (Delores) Droppers of Cedar Grove; six grandchildren, Craig (Susan) Droppers, Linda (Randy) Sparks, Gretchen (Chris) Madden, Johnmark Oudersluys, Christopher (Charity) Browne and Corey Browne; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Joan (Harvey) Teumer of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Muriel Wagner of Redlands, California; eight sisters-in-law, Jean Droppers of Wyckoff, New Jersey, Mildred Wagner and Fern LeMahieu, both of Sheboygan, Lenore LeMahieu of Oostburg, Lorraine and Marion LeMahieu of Sheboygan Falls, and June and Ruth LeMahieu, both of Arkansas; and one brother-in-law, Harold (Penny) LeMahieu of Sheboygan. Herb is also survived by one step daughter, Jean (Dewey) Rammer of Sheboygan; two step sons, Mark (Pat) Daane of Tarpon Springs, Florida and Jan (Cheryl) Daane of Menomonee Falls; eight step grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren. Herb was preceded in death by his first wife, two sisters, Edith (Ervin) Bach and Dorothy (Julio) DeSmidt; and one brother, Neil Droppers. Funeral services will be held at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Thursday, January 26, 2006 at 10:30 am with the Rev Earl Slotman officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Friends may greet the family at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Wednesday from 4-8 pm; and on Thursday, from 9:30 am until the time of service.
