James “Jim” William Dawson, age 80, passed away with his family by his side on June 1, 2026 in Sheboygan WI. Born on November 15, 1945, in Prentice WI, he was the son of the late William and Angeline (Jansen) Dawson. Jim was a man who lived life on his own terms, deeply appreciating the simple pleasures of life. He was happiest when he was outdoors, whether hunting, gardening, working on his hobby farm, tending to the animals or enjoying the quiet of nature.
Jim was very proud of his service both to his country and his community. He enjoyed serving on the local school board, working with numerous Governors, and fighting for the workers as a union representative at several companies as well as the Teamsters.
He was reunited in death with his parents, his first wife Joanne (Klabechek) Dawson, his second wife Kathy Dawson and his daughter Dawn Marie (Dawson) Smith.
He was very proud of his family and loved being a grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his two sons, Danny Dawson and Michelle, Bill Dawson and Laurie. Seven grandchildren, Kelsey Dawson, Austin Smith, Danielle (Cody) Nielsen, Cameron Smith, Tyler Smith, Brianna (Dylan) Holseth and Ryan Dawson, as well as 3 great grandchildren; Dawson Smith, Palmer Nielsen and Mason Smith. Also leaving behind his sister Sharon Drobinski and brother Richard Dawson as well as many extended family members and friends including the staff at Lakehouse who Jim really cared for and the wonderful team at Aurora ICU who took such great care of him at the end.
The family will host a celebration of Jim’s life on August 8th, 2026 at the VFW Post 9156 in Sheboygan from 1pm-4pm with a small service planned for 2pm.
