James G. DeMunck

James G. DeMunck, a kind and gentle man, went to his Lord and Savior on June 27, 2026, one month shy of his 90th birthday. Jim lived a long, full life, and even as his health declined, he reached out to hold doors open and shake hands with strangers.

Jim had many accomplishments in his life. He had a creative mind, was a rascal as a little boy, pitched no-hitters for his Oostburg High School baseball team, and got letters of interest from MLB teams (but his dad didn't want him playing ball on Sundays). Jim had a great speaking voice and was a radio disc jockey at several radio stations in Wisconsin. He started DeMunck Simmelink & Company, Advertising connecting radio stations, jingle companies, and Christian radio programs. Jim retired early, remodeled the family home, and began working as a “gate guy” at a residential/golf course community in Borrego Springs. He worked at Rams Hill for 20 years and loved it.

Jim lived in Oostburg, WI, Apple Valley, CA, Borrego Springs, CA, and Merriam, KS. Throughout his life and wherever he lived, Jim’s love for travel and adventure kept him on the road or in the air.

Jim is survived by his wife Kathy, whom he married on December 25, 1967, his beloved daughter Angela and son-in-law Nathan Powell, and his grandchildren Brynna, August, and Haven. He is also survived by his sister's children, Jane Kappers (Ron), Linda Mertens (Kelly, deceased), and Bob Dolfin (Gloria), and by his best friend, Carl Brasser. Jim was preceded in death by his parents James I. and Angeline (te Grotenhuis) DeMunck, his sister Joyce Dolfin and her husband Paul, his brother Jay, and his niece Anne Evanoff.

A memorial service will be held for Jim at Hillcrest Covenant Church, Prairie Village, KS, at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11th. His ashes will be interred at the Oostburg Cemetery, where Jim's parents, sister and her husband, and brother are buried. A small family service will follow in October 2026.

We thank the staff at Heritage of Overland Park and Advanced Hospice for the loving care they gave to Jim and to our family. Memorial donations can be made to Hillcrest Covenant Church or to Advanced Hospice of Kansas City.

Jim rests forever with Jesus, and our family thanks the Lord for keeping this man in our lives for so many years.
