James F. Schaefer

James F. Schaefer, 81, of Oostburg, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Aurora Medical Center-Sheboygan. He passed one day before his 82nd birthday.

James was born to Joseph and Delores (Frey) Schaefer on February 16, 1944, in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. He graduated from Romeo Senior High School in 1962. James went on to serve his country in the US Army as a specialist E4.

James worked at General Motors for 19 years. James was a member of 1st Presbyterian Church in Sheboygan. He was a guitar instructor and enjoyed family Christmas gatherings on the family farm.

James is survived by his son, Christopher (Nancy); grandchildren: Zachariah, Mercy, David, Anthony, Grace, Joy, and Hope; sisters, Johanna and Shirley; brother, Paul (Barbara); many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna (John), and brothers-in-law, Butch and James.

A funeral service to celebrate James’s life will be held at Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 11:30am. He will be laid to rest at Oostburg Cemetery. will take place at the funeral home from 10:00am until the time of service.
