Jean Wilma Mentink, 97, of Oostburg, went to be with her Heavenly Father on April 5, 2021, at Pine Haven Christian Communities - Oostburg Campus.
Born to Harold and Hattie (TerMaat) DeMaster on December 29, 1923, in the Town of Holland, she was a 1941 graduate of Cedar Grove High School. On September 27, 1946, Jean married her best friend, George Mentink in Cedar Grove.
Jean was a busy and dedicated homemaker while raising her seven children. She was an active member of First Reformed Church of Oostburg. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, reading, playing games, cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers, and spending time with family and friends over a cup of coffee.
Jean is survived by four daughters, Dianne VerGowe of Sheboygan Falls, Donna Dortman of Sheboygan, Jan (Rick) Heinen of Oostburg, and Vicki Mentink of Sheboygan; daughter-in-law, Jan Mentink; two sons, Wendell (Joan) Mentink of Oostburg, and Phil (Faye) Mentink of Oostburg; 26 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Mentink; parents, Harold & Hattie DeMaster; son, Wayne Mentink; sister, Marian (Ralph) Heinen; brothers, Dale (Alice) DeMaster, and Russell (Virgilyn) DeMaster; an infant sister; three sons-in-law, Roland Dulmes, John Dortman, and James VerGowe; and two infant great-grandchildren.
A funeral service to celebrate Jean's life will take place at First Reformed Church of Oostburg on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will take place from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Jean will be laid to rest next to her husband at Hingham Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to First Reformed Church of Oostburg.
