John D. Rutz

John D. Rutz passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, at the age of 92, surrounded by his loving family in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin.

Born in 1933 to George and Mildred Rutz in Forestville, Wisconsin, John grew up with a strong work ethic, a curious mind, and a deep appreciation for learning. He was born again much later in life when he accepted the gift of eternal forgiveness through the sacrifice of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

John honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Oostburg Legion Post 0286. He pursued his passion for education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Intermediate and Grammar Grade Education from Wisconsin State College - Oshkosh and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

For John, teaching wasn’t just a career, it was a calling. Over the decades he spent in classrooms in Waubeka, Cedarburg, and Sheboygan public schools, he became known for his ability to connect with his students. He had a gift for seeing the potential in every child, urging them to work hard, think deeply, and take pride in their accomplishments. Even after retirement, he continued to serve young minds by volunteering at Oostburg Elementary School, where his warmth and enthusiasm made him a favorite among both students and staff.

John appreciated spending time with his family and was especially proud of his children and granddaughter. He enjoyed attending Bible studies, a good round of golf with friends, cheering for his favorite sports teams, and crafting original clocks.

Those who knew John will remember his generous spirit, quick wit, and inquisitive nature. He was the kind of man who could strike up a conversation with anyone and make those around him feel valued. Above all, his deepest hope was that others would come to know and follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

John was preceded in death by his best friend and beloved wife of 62 years, Adriana; his parents; and his six siblings, Warren Rutz, Charlotte Bero, Alice Massart, and Karen, Margaret, and Doreen Rutz.

He is survived by his daughter Lori Grether, son Derek Rutz, granddaughter Sara Grether, sisters Laverne (Ken) Meyer and Louise (David) Arneson, brother-in-law Tom Brittain, cousin Tom (Susan) Rutz, special niece Tanda Lienau, extended family, and many dear friends who will miss him greatly.

A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions to VCY America, Inc., 3434 Kilbourn Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53208, a Christian radio station, would be appreciated.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional caregivers at Pine Haven Covenant Home and Sharon Richardson Hospice. Your kindness, compassion, and friendship brought our Dad much joy and comfort during his final year.
