John Schmid, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away unexpectedly on his 88th birthday, Friday, March 17, 2023, at his home.
John was born on March 17, 1935, to Michael and Lucille (Keuler) Schmid in Chilton. He graduated from Chilton High School and went on to serve in the US Navy for 4 years during the Korean conflict. Following his service, he attended MSOE and obtained his bachelor's degree in industrial engineering. John was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Rice on December 31, 1960, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chilton. He was employed at Kohler Company in the plumbing division, as an engineer for all of his working career and was a member of the Quarter Century Club.
John was a lifelong member of Blessed Trinity Parish. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 149. John enjoyed traveling, going out to dinner, and spending quality time with his family and his special friend, Marianna.
John is survived by his son, Thomas (Kathy) Schmid of Greenfield; three daughters, Kathy (Steve) Nemecek of Sheboygan Falls, Lori Wacek of DePere, and Kelly (Tim) Lawrence of Sheboygan; seven grandchildren, Jacob (Chrissy) Schmid, Luke (Maria) Schmid, Claire Schmid, Nicholas (Kylie Galloway) Wacek, Brittany (Jason) Mulvey, and Evan, Patrick, and Mitchell Nemecek; great-grandchildren, Lily, Liam, Mason, and Carter. He is further survived by his sisters, Mary (Don) Binsfeld, Ellen (Dennis) Weitzman; special friend, Marianna Hartman; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen and sisters, Marjorie (Elroy) Knaus, Barbara Schmid.
A Mass of Christian Burial for John will be held at Blessed Trinity Parish on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at 10:30am. Entombment with military honors will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park in the Gardens of Peace.
Relatives and friends may greet the family at church from 9:00am until the time of mass.
Memorials are appreciated in John’s name.
