José Hipólito Dávila

José Hipólito Dávila, Jr, 88, of Oostburg, went home to be with his Lord peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Rocky Knoll.

José was born January 22, 1938 in Puerto Rico, son of José Hipólito Dávila and Victoria Santana Dávila. He grew up in Toa Alta and as a teenager, he trained with the Puerto Rican National Guard. He came to the United States in 1954.

On July 29, 1972, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Lorna Brasser in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They were married 53 years before her passing in 2025.

For 38 years, José was a dedicated machinist at Mercury Marine.

An outdoorsman, José enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Sauk Trail Conservation Club. He enjoyed watching sports, especially his Dallas Cowboys, and raising chickens.

José is survived by his children, Tom (Christina) Dávila, Jack (Vicki) Dávila, Teresa (Dan) Hartmann; grandchildren, Josh (Grace), Mandy, Ben, Ellie, Lynnie, and Abbie Dávila, Violette and Charlotte Dávila, Anthony (Ellie) Rautmann, Leila, and Lillie Hartmann; sisters Tata Rodríguez and Nova (Luís) Rondón; brother-in-law Tom (Sharon) Brasser; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law Lawrence “Lorney” and Lois (Wissink) Brasser, and sisters Elba Dávila and Matilde Dávila.

A funeral service to celebrate José’s life will be held at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 12:00 noon. All are welcome to view a livestream of the service on José’s obituary page at wenigfh.com .

Relatives and friends may greet the family at church from 10:00 am until the time of the service.

Memorials are appreciated in José’s name.
