Joseph Mauer, 90, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away peacefully at Sharon S. Richardson Hospice with family by his side on Friday, September 5, 2025 following a lengthy illness. Joe was born in Pipe Village, WI on December 11, 1934, the son of the late Edward & Julia (Langenfeld) Mauer. He married the love of his life, the former Janet Onnink Donath, on July 2, 1955. She preceded him in death on March 7, 2006 after 50 years of marriage.
Even though Joe did not graduate from high school his knowledge of working on plastic machines was evident as he worked for Kohler General for 34 years. While working at Kohler General, Mr. Pete Kohler asked Joe to move from the machine shop to the plastics division where he was instrumental in developing the process of molding EPS plastics.
Joe was a loving father to his seven children, Sarah (Bob) Lange, John Mauer, Bob (Kelly) Mauer, Sue (Warren) Stokdyk, Jeff (Chela) Mauer, Pork (Brenda) Mauer, and Mary (Brian) Andrews. He was proud grandpa to, Ashley Lange, Kyle (Bri) Lange, Brittany Lange, Ryan (Becca) Mauer, Bill (Lindley) Mauer, Bethany Mauer, Seth (Erin) Mauer, Chelsey (Justin) Luft, Tess Mauer, Matthew Stokdyk, Janna Stokdyk, Brady (Erin) Mauer, McKenna (Adam) Kisiolek, Paige (special friend, Tony) Wallner, and Caden Wallner. He was proud great grandpa to, Jane Lange, Rinella Lange, Brennan, Elliot, and Nolan Mauer, Grace and Charli Mauer, Ariana Sperhake, Gabby and Carrie Jane Mauer, Duncan Luft, and Jace Methfessel. He is further survived by his sister, Mary Jane Huibregtse, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his siblings, Rosetta, Kathleen, Loretta, Ralph, Elroy, Eugene, Claude, Henry, and Edward, several sisters-in-law and several brothers-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on at 5:00PM on Friday, September 12, 2025 at Blessed Trinity Parish (319 Giddings Avenue, Sheboygan Falls). All are welcome to view a livestream of Joe’s funeral on his obituary page at www.wenigfh.com . Visitation will take place on Friday from 2:00-4:45PM at the church.
He will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Sheboygan Falls beside his wife Janet.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Blessed Trinity, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, and Heart of the Nation Catholic Mass.
Words cannot express Joe’s appreciation to his children for all the love and support they showed over the past several months. The family would like to thank Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice nurses, Jayne, Cynthia and Lisa, and the entire staff for their compassionate care.
