Judith Ellen Alfredson, age 81, of Wausau, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 27, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Judy was born on January 22, 1944, to Leonard Micah and Dorothy Marie (Hawke) Gage in Milwaukee. She had fond memories growing up in Shorewood on Farwell Avenue with her four siblings and attending Shorewood High.
Judy was united in marriage to Werner Alfredson Jr. on August 13, 1966. Together, they began their married life in Menominee, Michigan before settling in Wausau, Wisconsin. There they raised their four children and built a beautiful life together. Judy and Werner shared 59 years of commitment and love.
Her greatest passion was her Lord Jesus. She committed her life to Christ in 1986 and followed Him the rest of the days of her life. Her faith was not merely spoken - it was lived out through wisdom and steadfast love.
Aside from being a wonderful wife, devoted mother and homemaker, Judy worked at Wausau Insurance and Ruder Law Firm before starting and operating Alfredson Painting with her husband, Werner. They worked together nearly everyday painting, decorating and wallpapering - making an incredible team.
Judy poured her heart and soul into her children and 13 grandchildren, whom she loved deeply. She was a constant source of encouragement, wisdom, prayer, and guidance.
In her quiet moments, Judy delighted in gardening, knitting, sewing, crocheting, and games with vocabulary words - such as Wordle and Scrabble. She had a passion for extensive reading, deep studies, and learning new things. She loved birds, especially Orioles, and would anticipate each spring when they arrived again with her lure of grape jam and oranges. Judy had a remarkable gift for home decorating with an eye for beauty that could transform anything. In her retirement years, she loved learning new recipes and perfecting them for her family.
Judy’s legacy of love, prayer and spiritual guidance will live on through all of us. She finished her race well and now rejoices in the promise she shared boldly: everlasting life in Christ! Well done, good and faithful servant.
Judy is survived by her husband, Werner Jr.; her children: Gage (Valentina) of Mint Hill, North Carolina, Iyan (Melissa) Alfredson of Kildeer, IL, Mija Smith of Random Lake, WI, and Taryn (Quinten) Towle of Wausau, WI; 13 cherished grandchildren; and brother, Kevin (Judy) Gage of Milwaukee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Dean and Darell; sister Pamela; her son-in-law, Steven Smith; and one beloved grandchild, baby Steven.
Private family services will be held.
Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg is honored to serve the family.
