Kenneth Gary Kaat

Kenneth Gary Kaat, 74, of Plymouth, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Kenneth Kaat was born on November 15, 1950 in Sheboygan, WI to parents Gilles and Angeline (VerVelde) Kaat. He was a 1969 graduate of South High School. He married Colleen Gatzke on September 24, 1977, they lived in Sheboygan until moving to Plymouth in 1996.

Ken was always energetic and hard working. He worked for Kaat’s Culligan right out of high school until he was introduced to Insurance Sales and started Ken Kaat Agency. He built an amazing company and trained and employed many agents, including his wife Colleen, who joined him in the business. After their move to Plymouth, he continued his business until he decided to go back to Kaat's Culligan and continue sales there until his retirement.

Ken grew up on a vegetable farm and always knew what a hard, honest day's work was and always had a love for the outdoors. As anyone who knew him would say, he always had the most manicured lawn and yard, no matter which house it was. Ken had a love for golf. He joined a league at Riverdale in Sheboygan and helped run tournaments. In his late years he would return to golfing, with his son-in-law, Aaron, playing for fun. He also loved old cars and restored a few. He entered into competitions and liked to attend car shows. Ken got to enjoy a ride in his 2004 Corvette the day before passing. Ken and Colleen bought a condo in Panama City Beach in 2010 so that they could spend the winter months in the warm weather, right on the ocean. Ken also enjoyed being on the water. His favorite places were Lake Michigan, Crescent Lake in Rhinelander, and the “Emerald Coast” on the Gulf in PCB. For the past three years, Ken and Colleen, owned a pontoon boat that was docked at Skipper Buds on Lake Butte Des Morts, and enjoyed many days cruising on the water.

Ken enjoyed outreach and spreading the word of Christ. He volunteered at Plymouth Alliance Church, taking care of the Community Mustard Seed Gardens, Hydration Ministry, working with the After Prison Ministry, bringing meals and talking to men about how to change their lives around. He also spent many years volunteering at the Plymouth Food Pantry.

These things alone show what a love for life Ken had. However, above all these things, he was the loving and devoted husband, a father that was involved in his children's lives, a grandfather who was young and vibrant and did so many countless things with them, and loved and adored his great grandchildren and playing with them.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Colleen Kaat; his children Gary (Andrea) Kaat, Jason Kaat, and Angela (Aaron) Cleveland; grandchildren James (Ardis) Kaat, John Kaat, Morgan (Seth Hess) Henkel, Kade (Cal Szambelan) Kaat, Alesha (Alex Harper) Kaat, and Jade (Kaden Kelling) Henkel; great-grandchildren Jeremy Worden, Aydan Hamil, Alice Kaat, Kenai Kaat, and Ayla Harper; brother Gilbert (Shelley) Kaat, and sisters Beverly Teetzen Kaat, Janice Kaat, and his brother and sister-in-law Lawrence “Larry” Gatzke and Cindy Boyd. Ken was preceded in death by siblings Lloyd Kaat, Richard Kaat, Gerald (Kathy) Kaat, Roger Kaat, Leroy (Cookie) Kaat, Beatrice (Roger) Bourrett, in-law Bruce Teetzen and his parents, his brother-in-laws Craig Gatzke and David Boyd, Gilles and Angeline VerVelde Kaat, father and mother-in-law, Galan and JoAnn Gatzke.
