LaVerne Lemmenes

June 23, 1926 — December 5, 2017

LaVerne Harriet Lemmenes, 91, of Cedar Grove, died on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 of natural causes, at Pine Haven Christian Homes, Covenant Home. LaVerne was born on June 23, 1926, in Cedar Grove to Abram and Clara (Wieberdink) Hoftiezer, and graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1943 at the age of 16. She was a secretary at ESCO, now Mayline, before marrying Eugene Howard Lemmenes on September 12, 1947, in Cedar Grove. LaVerne loved her family and was a dedicated homemaker while raising her children. She had the gift of hospitality and was an excellent cook.  During times when not as busy with family responsibilities, she also worked as a teacher aide, school secretary, and helped at the Villager Newspaper of Cedar Grove. LaVerne was an active member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove, singing in the choir and being a ready participant in her church life working with many committees.  She was also very active in the numerous communities that her husband's career took the family including Racine, Milwaukee, Stevens Point, and Madison before moving to Cedar Grove.  In each community she made numerous friendships that lasted her entire life. For years she was an active of the American Legion Auxiliary and a volunteer at the HET museum in Cedar Grove. LaVerne enjoyed oil painting, quilting, and hand work of all kinds.  Family became happy recipients of many of these projects.  She also enjoyed cooking, reading, especially about history, and learning about her family heritage.  She and Eugene traveled around the U.S. and to many foreign destinations. But her special love was always related to her family, especially family gatherings where she made fabulous meals, but more importantly wonderful memories that we, the family, will always cherish. LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers (Donald, Wallace, Dale), one sister (Annette Molter), two brothers-in-law (Roland Lemmenes, Ivan Molter), two sisters-in-law (Priscilla Lemmenes, Mert Lemmenes), and a special friend (George Harrison). She is survived by her four children, John (Ruth) Lemmenes of Grand Rapids, MI, Jane (Roger) Klettke of Sheboygan Falls, WI, Gene Lemmenes of Herbster, WI, Ann (Robert Zander) Lemmenes of Palo Alto, CA; eight grandchildren, Berant (Heather) Lemmenes, David Lemmenes, Matthew Lemmenes Scott Klettke, Ross Klettke, Shana Lemmenes, Karin (Corrina) Zandakis, AnaCena Zander; three great-grandchildren, Michael Lemmenes, Cole Lemmenes, Madelaine Bidne; a brother-in-law, Glenn (Lorraine) Lemmenes of Sheboygan Falls; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Lemmenes of Sheboygan, and Marge Hoftiezer of Grayslake, Il.; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Family and friends are invited to the visitation from 9:30am to 11:00am on Monday, December 11, 2017, at Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 136 W Union Ave, Cedar Grove, WI,. The funeral service to celebrate LaVerne's life will be held immediately afterwards followed by burial at Cedar Grove Cemetery.  A luncheon in the church fellowship hall will follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Pine Haven Christian Home, or the charity of your choice. The family would especially like to thank the staff of Pine Haven Christian Home, Oostburg, and Pine Haven, Covenant Home, Sheboygan Falls for the wonderful care given during the last several years as Mom increasingly needed help. For online condolences and additional information please visit www.wenigfh.com .  The Wenig Funeral Home of Oostburg (920-564-2771) is serving the Lemmenes family with arrangements.
