Lee R. VerVelde, of Oostburg, passed away Thursday evening, April 7, 2022 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls surrounded by his family. Lee put up a valiant fight against his illnesses and never let it diminish his spirit or his sense of humor.
Lee was born May 5, 1965 in Oostburg, the son of Lester and Inez (Rademaker) VerVelde. He graduated from Sheboygan Christian High School in 1984.
For over 20 years, he worked at Wind Mill Woodworking. He went on to work at Baker Furniture, during which he started his own business, VerVelde Finishing which he ran for the last 15 years. He loved working with wood, and refinished/ restored countless pieces for area businesses and customers.
On February 14, 2022, Lee joined hands in marriage with Kristine Cornell (nee Thorne) at their home in Oostburg.
Lee was a member of Oostburg Christian Reformed Church where over the last 30 years he enjoyed running the soundboard as part of the Technology Team. Above all, Lee loved his family and friends, he enjoyed gathering to share a beer in the garage, sunday’s at the pool to swim, treasure hunts and long, slow bro-mantic walks thru the hardware store. He was a goofball with an infectious grin and a Beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle and Friend. He will be remembered as a Kind, honorable and respected man.
Lee is survived by his Loving Wife Kristine, Beloved Son Justin VerVelde, Port Washington, Second Son Zachary Salvetta, Cleveland, Favorite Daughter Ever Kaila Lee Cornell, Seymour MO and Best Dog Meisha VerVelde, Siblings: Linda (Jerry) Eggebeen Oostburg, Larry VerVelde Plymouth, Laurie (Kim) Ackley Oostburg and LuAnn Walcott Oostburg. He is further survived by Father-in-law John Thorne Sr., Sheboygan, Sister-in-law Patricia Depner, Shawano, Brothers-in-law: John Thorne Jr., Shane (Kathy) Thorne Sheboygan and Mark Johnson of New London; Nieces, Nephews, and many other Relatives and Friends.
Lee’s Family would like to Thank Dr Matt Johnson and Dr Sachee of St Luke’s Hospital for the Outstanding Care you gave him, Dr Deepak Kilari and the Wonderful Staff at Froedtert Advanced Cancer Center for your Compassion, Diligence and continually going Above and Beyond...you were our Anchor in the sea of cancer’s chaos and we are so humbled and grateful for you! And for the Sharon Richardson Home Hospice Team, specifically Valerie, Bree, Kim and Ann, Medical Professionals who turned into Friends, who became our Family, you are Amazing!
A service celebrating Lee’s life will be held at 5:00 PM on Monday, April 18, 2022 at Oostburg Christian Reformed Church. Visitation will take place on Monday at the church from 2:00 PM until the time of service
He will be laid to rest at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in a private Family Service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in his name.
