Leo Joseph Verbrigghe passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center. He was 92 years old.
Leo was born May 15, 1933 in Rock, MI, the son of Henry and Louise (DeGrande) Verbrigghe. He attended school in Rock, and went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1951-1955. For 40 years, he worked maintenance at Interstate Drop Forge in Milwaukee.
On June 6, 1963, he was united in marriage with Jean Degenhardt, who preceded him in death in 1996. On May 24, 1998, he was united in marriage with Shirley Nelson, who preceded him in death in 2018.
An avid outdoorsman, Leo loved camping, long walks, hunting, fishing and chopping down trees. He enjoyed traveling, especially his winters spent in Florida. He was known for home renovations and improvements and was a familiar face at the Moose Lodge where he enjoyed good food, drinks, and conversation. Above all, he looked forward to time spent with his family and dear friends.
Leo was a member of NRA, Sheboygan Moose Lodge #438, American Legion Van Ells-Schanen Post #82, and a former member of American Legion Post #205 in Janesville.
Leo is survived by his daughter Kathy (Jeffery) Baumgart and grandchildren: Kimberly (Peter) Groh, Bryan (Kelli) Baumgart and Jennifer (Jason) Schubert; great-grandchildren Alyssa and Hunter Schubert; brothers Francis, Matt and Dennis (Martha) Verbrigghe; sisters-in-law Sandy Verbrigghe, Elaine Degenhardt Deace, Mary Degenhardt, Helena Degenhardt and Nan Verbrigghe; other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wives Jean and Shirley, daughters Darlene and Karen, and siblings: Mary Jane (Matt) Ledvina, Raymond, Leonard (Gail), Henry “Hank”, Joseph, Donna (Paul) Mileski, Donald and 2 sets of twins; sisters-in-law Peggy and Darla Verbrigghe; brothers-in-law Raymond, James and Ronald Degenhardt .
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg. All are welcome to view a livestream of the service on Leo’s obituary page at www.wenigfh.com . The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00AM-12:00 noon. He will be laid to rest beside Jean at Mt Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Boys Town and Moose Heart.
