Lloyd Gilles Kaat, 82, of Elkhart Lake, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center.Lloyd was born on February 19, 1935, to Gillis and Angeline (VerVelde) Kaat. He attended Sheboygan area schools and served his country in the United States Army. On February 14, 1959, Lloyd married Jean Gilbertson in Sheboygan. Lloyd was employed as a truck driver at E&S Trucking and Buteyn Excavating where he retired in 1997.Lloyd was a faithful and active member of Plymouth Alliance Church. He was also a member of the Binnversie Sportman Club. Lloyd enjoyed snow mobiling, shooting sporting clays, hunting, fishing, taking walks with Jean, landscaping, cutting firewood (which Keith is still burning), being snowbirds to Texas for 10 years, and traveling with his wife, Jean. They enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Hawaii and numerous national parks. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. Lloyd is survived by his loving wife, Jean Kaat of Elkhart Lake; three daughters, Kathy (Jim) Spencer of Oostburg, Kandy (special friend Berto) Rieth of Cleveland, Kelly (Steve) Barbian of Sheboygan Falls; one son, Keith (Laura) Kaat of Elkhart Lake; eight grandchildren, Erin (Andy) Shafer, Tracy Spencer, Meri Spencer, April (Jake) Hermann, Mark (Cassie) Rieth, Kyle (special friend Jessica) Arpke, Justice (Special friend Emma) Rieth, and Sam Barbian; three great-grandchildren, Mason, Dexter, and Mazy; three sisters, Beatie Bourret, Bev (Bruce) Teetzen, and Janice Kaat; five brothers, Lee (special friend Judy) Kaat, Richard (Nelly) Kaat, Gerry (special friend Kathy) Kaat, Gib (Shelley) Kaat, and Ken (Colleen) Kaat; one sister-in-law, Kelly Kaat; and one brother-in-law, Gerald Gilbertson. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roger Kaat; two brothers-in-law, Roger Bourret, and Gilbert Gilbertson; and four sisters-in-law, Cookie Kaat, Kathy Kaat, Betty Gilbertson and Rena Gilbertson; and three nephews.A funeral service to celebrate Lloyd's life will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at 12pm at Plymouth Alliance Church, 1203 Fairview Drive, Plymouth.Relatives and friends may greet the family at the Church on Thursday, February 1, 2018, from 10 am until the time of service at 12pm.The family would like to extend their gratitude to the many health care professionals who served him. A special thanks to the first responders of Elkhart Lake, and staffs at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and Wenig Funeral Homes.In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Lloyd's name for Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
