Marilyn Mae Englebert

Marilyn Mae Englebert, 88, of Sheboygan, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Pine Haven Christian Communities – Haven Drive.

Marilyn was born to Erwin and Lillian (Thompson) Wiech on November 23, 1937, in New London. She was bookended safely between her brothers, Wally and Doug. The family moved to Sheboygan and settled in a neighborhood known as "the flats" where they made lifelong relationships with the families there. The family then moved to South 15th Street, where God had planned for her future husband, Hank, to live at the other end of the alley. On May 12, 1956, Marilyn married her best friend, Henry “Hank” Englebert, at Broadway Avenue Gospel Chapel in Sheboygan. Hank was drafted shortly thereafter and together they went off to Fort Polk, Louisiana where their firstborn son, Harlan arrived.

Coming back to Sheboygan in 1959, they eventually settled on Alabama Ave and welcomed Chris and then Jay, 8 years later. They bought their cozy little nook on Wilgus Road and got settled in before completing their family with Liz. At each stop, they together created a loving home and built relationships within the neighborhood.

Marilyn was a stay-at-home mom for many years before returning to work, first at Walden books, which perfectly fed into her love of reading. She then worked at Sunny Ridge, where she excelled as a nursing assistant on the Alzheimer's unit for many years.

Following retirement, she and Hank began their yearly winter treks down to Florida, beginning with a few weeks and extending their time there to months. There they enjoyed family and made new friends. The kids all enjoyed time spent there each winter and many memories were made.

Marilyn’s gifts were many and she shared her time freely and with great pleasure. She was known for her well written cards of encouragement, greetings, and celebrations. Each card was meaningful, thoughtful, and at times could be lengthy, yet always signed “Lovingly, Marilyn.”

Marilyn enjoyed being involved in her kid’s schools, including volunteering at Good as New for 30+ years. She also gave freely of her time to the Braille Ministry at Immanual Lutheran Church in Sheboygan, and Friends of the Mead Public Library, which gave her the opportunity to deliver books to the residents of Morningside Nursing Home. She was also a part of Linus blankets, Ivy League Garden Club, and Christian Women’s Club, where she served several board positions.

She had a zest for life, a contagious smile and brimmed with positivity. Marilyn was quick to compliment and never missed a chance to make a new friend or help someone who needed encouragement. She was kind, gentle, compassionate, present, loving, strong, genuine, and always joyful. Marilyn lived a life grounded in faith, service, humility, and care for others.

Her house was always open and welcoming; she would stop anything she was doing and enjoy your company for as long as you stayed. Coffee was on and treats were readily supplied. She was known to whip up a batch of caramel corn, pull out some chocolate eclairs or whip you up a sandwich while you are there. She delighted in every conversation she had, genuinely enjoying every detail and asking many questions that she really wanted the answers to.

Marilyn was lovingly known as Mom, Oma, Nick, and Sis. She is survived by her daughters, Chris (Jeff) Kutzner and Liz Weavers; son, Jay (Julie) Englebert; grandchildren: Jessica, Julie, Zachary, Jayden (fiancé Kenzie), Jake, Tayrn, and Tessa. She is further survived by her brother, Doug (Mary) Wiech; sisters-in-law, Judy Englebert, Darlene (Gene) Guikema; and her many nieces and nephews, whom she adored.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry “Hank” Englebert; son, Harlan Englebert; and son-in-law, Jon Weavers.
