Marilyn Schmitt

Marilyn Helen Schmitt, 73, of Kohler, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Marilyn was born on April 5, 1945, in Sheboygan, to John and Helen (Karsteadt) Klujeske. She was a 1963 graduate of Sheboygan South High School. On June 22, 1968, Marilyn married Robert Schmitt in Sheboygan. Throughout her career Marilyn was a Legal Secretary, a Private Secretary or a Confidential Secretary for a number of law firms, the Kohler School District and  the Kohler Company Engine Division until her retirement in 2009.   Marilyn was a member of the First Congregational Church in Sheboygan and throughout her years enjoyed travel, visiting with friends, knitting, bridge club, entertaining, collecting antique Santas, and anything involving family. She loved cooking and published a cookbook of her favorite recipes for her grandchildren and friends. She was also an avid gardener who's plant collections included family heirloom peonies.  Marilyn most loved spending time "Up North" at the family cottage outside Hazlehurst, Wisconsin and was happiest when spoiling her grandchildren or enjoying the local loons and hummingbirds.    Marilyn is survived by her husband, Robert Karl Schmitt, Jr.; daughter, Tracy (Aric) Melzl; son, Erik (Jessica) Schmitt; six grandchildren, Fritz Melzl, Vienna Melzl, Greta Melzl, Parker Schmitt, Lily Schmitt, and Emerson Schmitt; two brothers, Allan (Beatrice) Klujeske, and Dan (Lynn) Klujeske; and one sister, Audrey Greenwald. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law, Robert and Joyce Schmitt,Sr.; one sister, Lois (Larry) Hinze; brothers-in-law, Harold Greenwald and Robert Weber.  A memorial service to celebrate Marilyn's life will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 11am at the First Congregational Church in Sheboygan. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Friday, Febraury 1,2019 at the church from 10am until the time of service at 11am.A memorial fund is being established in Marilyn's name with donations going towards breast cancer research. The family would like to thank the staff at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic for the compassionate care given during this journey.For online condolences and additional information please visit www.wenigfh.com.  The Wenig Funeral Home of Sheboygan Falls (920-467-3431) is serving the Schmitt family with arrangements.
