Marion E. Prinsen, 93, formerly of Cedar Grove, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Pine Haven Christian Communities.

Marion (Franz) Prinsen was born on February 5, 1930, to Ewald and Edna (Kuhfuss) Franz. She attended the nearby Schwartzwald elementary school and was a member of the Schwartzwald United Church of Christ. Marion worked summers at the Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake. She graduated from Kiel High School in 1947, followed by the Sheboygan County Teacher’s College in 1949, where she met her husband of 67 years, LaVern G. Prinsen. Marion taught in a Manitowoc County School, then Sheboygan County schools for five years before starting a family.

Marion was a member of First Reformed Church of Cedar Grove. Over the years, she taught Sunday school, Wednesday afternoon Bible school, and Vacation Bible School. She was also active in the Ladies Circle. Marion was a leader in establishing the church library and managed it or worked in it for 38 years. Marion, along with LaVern, volunteered 13 winters at Southern Normal School in Brewton, Alabama. Marion enjoyed spending time with family, relatives, and friends, reading, gardening, bus trips, and especially old movies. She was a very gentle soul, quiet and reflective, but also all about inventing or creating helpful gadgets for around their country home of 60 years.

Marion is survived by her three sons, Gale (Pam) Prinsen of Beaver Dam, Jan (Yvonne James) Prinsen of Newburgh, Indiana, and Lee (Rondell) Prinsen of Sheboygan; six grandchildren, Ben (Lauren) Prinsen, Adam Prinsen, Andy (Katelyn) Prinsen, Phillip (Kendall) Prinsen, Matthew (Krystal) Prinsen, and Megan (Marcus) Ninneman; nine great-grandchildren, Parker and Payton Ninneman, Mason, Grace, and Ryder Prinsen, Adalai and Bennett Prinsen, and Jack and William Prinsen. Other surviving relatives include a brother, Jerome (Karen) Franz of Rio; sister, Caroline (Ronald) Doersch of Middleton; four sisters-in-law, Shirley Hoitink and Donna Prinsen of Cedar Grove, Carla (Russ) Stahl of Elk Grove Village, IL, Phyllis Melzer of Waukesha, and many nieces and nephews.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband, LaVern in 2018; sister, Esther (Henry) Knoener; brothers-in-law, Glenn Prinsen, John Hoitink, Robert Meinen, Al Melzer, Robert Soerens; sisters-in-law, Doris Soerens, Lenore Meinen and daughter-in-law, Julie Prinsen, as well as several nephews.

Funeral services to celebrate Marion’s life will be held at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove on Monday, May 22, 2023, at 11:00am. She will be laid to rest by LaVern at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may greet the family at church from 9:30am until the time of service.
