Marlene R. Freville passed away Thursday evening, March 17, 2022 at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Hospital with her husband, Bob, by her side. She was 70 years old.
Marlene was born October 23, 1951 in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Benjamin and Catherine (nee Hornick) Merkel. She grew up in Fond du Lac, attended St. Louis Grade School and Sabish Junior High, and graduated from Goodrich High School in 1970. She went on to study at Marian College, earning a BA in social work and BS in sociology. She worked for Brook Industry as a counselor.
She met Robert “Bob” Freville in 1976. They were united in marriage on October 29, 1977 in Fond du Lac, and had two sons, Joe and Eric.
Marlene was a stay at home mom, and did in-home childcare. Later in life, Marlene went to work at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Hospital as a switchboard operator from 1996 until her retirement in 2006.
A member of Blessed Trinity Parish, Marlene was involved with the religious education program and assisted Bob with many Knights of Columbus activities. She was involved with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, volunteered at church and school, and received the Friends of Education award. Marlene belonged to two quilting groups, and loved creating quilts for her family and friends. She enjoyed quilting, reading, baking, sewing and camping.
Marlene is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert, their sons: Joseph (Robyn) Freville and Eric (Stephanie) Freville and grandchildren: Conor, Malachi, Hannah and Levi Freville. She is further survived by her siblings: Tom (Sue) Merkel, Paul (Colleen) Merkel, Ann (Ken) Reinke, Rose (Mark) Lefeber, Mike Merkel, Julie (Joe) Giebel, Teresa (Ed) Comparon and Barb (Joel) Kroll; sister-in-law Bonnie (Steve) Albrecht; special friends Peggy and Frank Eder; special cousin Jan Hafenbredl; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls. The family will receive visitors at the church on Wednesday from 10:00AM-11:00AM. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary Cemetery in Sheboygan Falls.
