Marvin “Mucks” G. Hengst, 88, of Oostburg, met his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
Mucks was born on March 21, 1937, to William and Elizabeth (Oppeneer) Hengst in Oostburg. He graduated from Oostburg High School in 1956. Mucks served his country in the US Army for 2 years, serving his time in Germany. On May 15, 1959, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Simmelink.
Mucks was a member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg and served as both deacon and elder. They enjoyed being in a small group at First Reformed for many years. Mucks was also involved with Jaycees and a volunteer fireman for Oostburg Fire Department. He worked in construction and was last employed at Buteyn Peterson.
Mucks enjoyed many months in Florida in the winter and made many lifelong friends there. He loved to travel and took many bus trips with the Netherlands being a favorite of his. Mucks enjoyed working in his flower garden, boating with his family when his kids were young, and bike rides with Carol. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who he instigated many shenanigans with.
Mucks is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Carol; children, Terri (Tedd) Mentink, Dean (LeAnne) Hengst, Jay (Terri) Hengst, Jamey (Stephanie) Hengst; grandchildren, Jeremy (Amanda Rodriguez) Hengst, Krystle (Luke) Mills, Karrie (Luke) Kaat, Nick (Courtney) Hengst, Lukas (Andrea Torres) Hengst, Amanda (Justin) Roerdink, Dylan (Tierra) Hengst, Ethan Hengst, Ben (Sophie) Hengst, Lexi (Jonah) Frier, Griffin Hengst, Kenzie Hengst; 13 great grandchildren and 2 more on the way. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Mucks was preceded in death by his son, Michael; parents; siblings, Gertrude, Leonard, James, and Herbert; parents-in-law, Willis and Florence Simmelink.
A funeral service will be held at First Reformed Church in Oostburg on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 11:00am. A livestream of the service can be viewed by visiting Muck’s obituary page at wenigfh.com.
Relatives and friends may greet the family at Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Tuesday, May 6, from 4:00-7:00pm and again at church on Wednesday, from 9:30am until the time of service.
Memorials are appreciated in Muck’s name to First Reformed Church, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, or JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes).
