Mary Thiel

Mary Ann Thiel (88) of Pine Haven Christian Communities-Giddings Avenue Campus, previously of Hingham, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. Mary was born to Arthur and Martha (Swart) Koskamp on March 23, 1934, in the Town of Lima. She was a 1952 graduate of Oostburg High School.

Mary worked as a bookkeeper at Richardson Lumber Company where she met her sweetheart, Clarence. They were united in marriage on May 12, 1962, at Hingham Reformed Church. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2021.

Mary enjoyed raising her daughters and later working in housekeeping and laundry at Pine Haven Christian Home. She was a lifelong member of Hingham Reformed Church and an active member of women’s guild and mission circle. She shared her musical talents for 45 years as organist and pianist at Hingham Reformed Church and other Reformed churches in the area. She also played organ and piano for various choirs, soloists, funerals, and weddings.

Over the years, you could find her busy sewing clothes for herself, her daughters, and their dolls. She also enjoyed embroidery, counted cross-stitch, collecting cardinal items, tending to her flowers, and completing a good word search.

Some of her fondest life memories include family traditions of Christmas cookie baking, hosting family for the annual Hingham Memorial Day parade, going on bus trips with Clarence and friends, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting and music events.

Mary is survived by her daughters Ruth (Rich) TenPas of Sheboygan and Rachel (Dan) Rehbein of Howards Grove; grandchildren Connor Rehbein of Cedar Rapids, IA and Natalie Rehbein of South St. Paul, MN; sister Jane Ratmeyer of Stockbridge, GA, and sister-in-law Edna Koskamp of Port Washington.  She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers and sister-in-laws Peter (Anna), Aaron (Barbara), Paul, and James Koskamp, and brother-in-law Luther Ratmeyer.

A memorial service celebrating Mary's life will be held at Hingham Church on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 11:00am with Pastor Barrett Marcantel officiating.  If unable to attend, all are welcome to join via livestream by joining  wenig.live/MaryThiel  .  A burial will take place following the services at Hingham Cemetery.
