Nancy Lemkuil

Nancy E. Lemkuil, 86, of Sheboygan, passed away at Sunny Ridge Nursing Home in Sheboygan.

On December 28, 1936, Nancy was born in Sheboygan to Harold and Marion (Arnoldi) Lemkuil. Growing up on the family farm in the Town of Sheboygan, Nancy helped raise horses, cows, dogs, and of course, chickens. In her youth, Nancy was an avid horseback rider and showed animals at the fair. She was a graduate of Plymouth High School and continued her education at the University of Wisconsin- Madison where she studied social work. Nancy traveled extensively with University of Wisconsin Alumni Tour Groups becoming a seasoned world-wide traveler. Nancy worked as a compassionate and dedicated social worker for her entire career, working much of her time with the Milwaukee County foster care system. She was a dedicated member of her church, St. Luke Lutheran Church, where she played organ for approximately 60 years and was involved in various volunteer activities. She was a proud supporter of the Sheboygan Symphony, and an active member of the Lakeshore Garden Club.

Nancy was an independent young woman of the 1960s leading a refined and engaging life, ever friendly and helpful to make her community a better place. Nancy had lifelong love of music. Playing the organ, piano, or accordion. Using her Hi-Fi system to play “The Sound of Music” album over and over was an important mission that Nancy undertook to ensure that her nieces and nephews had memorized all the lyrics. Remarkably, Nancy traveled to Russian to see the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow and attended concerts and symphonies throughout the world when she wasn’t attending to her favorite Doberman Pinscher dogs. Gardening was another of Nancy’s lifetime passions. She shared it with her mother, Marion as they nurtured thousands of flowers to great beauty for decades. She will be cherished and dearly missed by all who knew her.

Nancy is survived by a sister, Jean Crosby; cousins Louis (Marilyn) Arnoldi, David Arnoldi and beloved nieces and nephews, John (Patti) Lemkuil, Deborah Faircrest, Jenny Lemkuil, and Loretta Lemkuil, Marianne Crosby; many dear great-nieces and great-nephews, and other beloved family and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Marion Lemkuil, and a brother, John (Karen) Lemkuil, cousin, Gary Arnoldi and nephew Michael Crosby.

Special thanks and great appreciation to Nancy’s kind and helpful neighbors, Kevin and Lori Pfeifer. A heartfelt thank you to all who helped and cared for Nancy at Sunny Ridge Nursing Home the last seven years, especially Terri Kirmse and all the daily care givers. Expressed gratitude and thanks to Amanda Clark, RN and everyone at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
