Norman Glen Veldboom, 84, of Oostburg, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
Norm was born on July 19, 1941, to Edwin and Elizabeth (Almekinders) Veldboom. He graduated from Oostburg Christian School in 1955 and Oostburg High School in 1959. Norm attended LaCrosse University and played football his freshman year. He went on to join the National Guard, helping with the Milwaukee riots.
On August 14, 1965, he was united in marriage to Darlene Ahrenholz in Prinsburg, MN. They lived in Waupun for 5 years before moving to Oostburg in 1970.
Norm worked selling insurance for Modern Woodmen of America, in various departments for H.C. Prange in Fond du Lac, and in the flooring department at Kindt Lumber Co. in Sheboygan. He opened his own business in Oostburg – Norm’s Home Decorating from 1976-1986. Norm finished his working career in Haven, WI for Richco Structures, a division of The Richardson Co.
Norm was a member of Oostburg CRC, where he served as elder. Norm volunteered in various capacities at Safe Harbor and Salvation Army. He learned Spanish later in life, helping with ESL at church and corrected weekly Bible Lessons for Crossroads Prison Ministry in Spanish. Norm served on the school boards of Sheboygan Christian High and Oostburg Christian Schools. He loved golfing and music, singing in the Pine Haven Men’s Chorus for 45 years.
Norm is survived by his wife of 60 years, Darlene; sons: Lee (Sue) Veldboom of East Jordan, MI and Rick (Amy) Veldboom of South Holland, IL; grandchildren: Nate (Emily), Lucas (Karlee), Judy, Abby, and Izzy Veldboom; great-grandchildren: Noah and Emery Veldboom; sister, Ruth (Dick) Swaagman; brother-in-law, Jim (Sue) Ahrenholz; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Dick and Alvina Ahrenholz; brother, Wes (Jan) Veldboom; nephews: Peter Veldboom and Todd Ahrenholz; and niece, Myra Ahrenholz.
A funeral service will be held for Norm at Oostburg CRC on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 10:00am. All are welcome to view a livestream of the service by visiting wenig.live/NormVeldboom. Visitation will take place at Wenig Funeral Home on Thursday, from 4:00 until 7:00pm and again at church on Friday, from 9:00am until the time of service. Norm will be laid to rest at Hartman Cemetery.
