Phillip H. Swart

Phillip H. Swart, formerly of Sheboygan, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, his home of the last year. He was 85 years old.

Phillip was born August 14, 1937 in the town of Lima, son of William and Elizabeth (Dekker) Swart. He grew up in Hingham, graduating from Oostburg High School in 1956. He went on to serve his county in the United States Army from 1957-1959.

On October 21, 1961, he was united in marriage with Carla J. Huibregtse at Hope Reformed Church in Sheboygan. The couple recently celebrated 61 years together.

For 34 years, Phillip worked at Vollrath Company as a plant electrician.

Phillip was a longtime member of Hope Reformed Church in Sheboygan, where he served as a deacon and elder, and was a member of the choir. He enjoyed camping, traveling, reading, and wintering in Arizona with Carla.

Phillip is remembered by his family, and pretty much everyone else who knew him, as a devoted family man, lover of coffee of questionable quality, curious about nearly everything, and possessing the ability to fix nearly anything.

Phillip is survived by his wife Carla and their sons: Dr. Daniel Swart of Mankato, MN, Dr. William (Dr. Dawn) Swart of Sioux Falls, SD and Dr. Gary (Kerrie) Swart of Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren: Mackenzie Swart of Milwaukee, WI; Riley Swart of New York, NY; Liam Swart of Sioux Falls, SD and Kieran Swart of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters: Miriam (Ralph) Heideman of Hingham and Bonita (John) Peter of Brandon, FL; brothers David (Barbara) Swart of Rochester, MN and Gerald (Susan) Swart of Sheboygan Falls; sister-in-law Joan Swart of Hingham.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Robert Swart.

A celebration of life will be held in Sheboygan later this spring, and in Mesa, AZ this fall. In keeping with Phillip’s giving spirit, in lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Hope Reformed Church benevolent fund.

Wenig Funeral Home – Oostburg (920-564-2771) is assisting the family with arrangements. Please visit www.wenigfh.com for online condolence.
