Ralph “Rudy” Dykstra, formerly of Hingham, passed away Tuesday morning, August 3, 2021 at Pine Haven in Sheboygan Falls. He was 98 years old.
Rudy was born November 13, 1922 in Vesper, WI, the son of John and Anna (nee Holstein) Dykstra. After attending Spring Lake School in Vesper, Rudy went on to serve his country in the United States Army. On June 18, 1949, he was united in marriage with Beverly Wells in Hingham. She preceded him in death in 2012 after 63 years together.
For 23 years, Rudy worked as a machine operator at Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac, retiring in 1986.
A longtime member of Hingham Church, Rudy served as a deacon, elder, treasurer, vice president and Sunday school teacher. He also was a member of the American Legion, Hingham Athletic Association, and Hingham Couples Bowling League. From 1995-2008, he enjoyed developing his family farm with his son-in-law into Hingham’s “beautiful” River Run subdivision. He also enjoyed bowling, golf, playing cards and time spent with his family.
Rudy is survived by his children: David (Joan) Dykstra of Oostburg, Ann Dykstra of Oostburg, Dale (the late Wava) Dykstra of Mishicot and Kathy (Steve) Oppeneer of Hingham. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Kurt (Leah) Dykstra, Nikki (Jason) Mills, Kyle (Phyllis) Dykstra, Adam (Patti) Dykstra, Tim (Ashley) Dykstra, Daniel (Lisa) Oppeneer, Michelle (Damon) Huibregtse, Joel (Sheila) Oppeneer and Michael (Michelle) Oppeneer; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; siblings: Robert Dykstra of St. Paul, MN and Marge (John) Ten Dolle of Hingham; brother-in-law Eugene Wassink of Hingham; sisters-in-law Lillian Dykstra of Hingham, Minnie Dykstra of Hingham and Linda Dykstra of Holland, MI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Beverly, great-grandson Aaron Dykstra, sister Sylvia Wassink and brothers: Cornelius (Bernice), Henry (Elsie), Sidney, Gerald, Willard and John.
Funeral Services will be held 12:00 noon on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg. All are welcome to join a livestream of the service at wenig.live/RalphDykstra . The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00AM-12:00PM. He will be laid to rest at Hingham Cemetery beside Beverly with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hingham Church, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice or Pine Haven Christian Home.
